2025 Practice

Birt-Hottle-Anderson would be my guess at 2nd line mids. I believe that Hottle has the speed & IQ to consistently draw a slide in the ACC. Maybe Bear & Deere alternate possessions at lefty mid. Kellogg’s shot would be interesting if it’s not Hottle.

On paper I think I like this lineup the most. Hottle would add some speed and shiftiness, plus he would be a good passer out there. Anderson could add the physicality and could be a real matchup problem if he draws a shorty. Birtwistle is a proven commodity who will put the ball in the back of the net. It’s a good balance all over the field. That does leave Deere and Kellogg on the outside looking in, though I’m sure they will rotate them all early in the season. I say “on paper”since perhaps Kellogg has made more strides during the offseason than Hottle. Maybe Anderson isn’t quite ready but Deere is. We shall see!

I do like that Rhoa and Birtwistle will be split up. Their games just remind me so much of each others. Birtwistle perhaps a better in close finisher, Rhoa a better dodger. But they are both pure goal scorers (just look at their assist totals). Again, better balance if they are split up.

Rhoa on the 1st line is something I've been looking forward to. Really wanna see how this plays out. Kellogg should be on the man up at minimum. Tough calls for that 2nd line, few openings and a lot of options

I think the loss of Jake Stevens will hurt, but if Wyatt Hottle can make some plays off face off wings, that would certainly help.

I'm not a big fan of Kellogg's game, so a 2nd line of Anderson, Birt and Hottle sounds good to me. I think shorting Hottle or Anderson would give SU a good matchup advantage.

I agree I think Rhoa is do for a big season! Very intriguing

From what I’m seeing from the bread crumbs the MLax IG page is dropping, Carter Rice may fill in that Jake Steven’s role. He seems to be on the field in every meaningful clip that ends in a goal from fall ball to now. I’ve also seen a bit here and there of Jack Schell and Chrishawn Hunter who are both 6’4” athletic middies so maybe they fill a role like that this year?

I believe Hunter is seeing time at SSDM for sure. I can't speak on Schell but he would make a ton of sense to.

I continue to dream about if we had only landed Hackler this offseason.. I would feel as confident as ND

Rice looked lethal dodging against Airforce during the scrimmage in the fall. Had some nice shots on the run to go along with his dodging. They were running a lot of different guys both ways that day, so would not read into it as a guarantee of two way minutes for him, but I'm sure the coaches are well aware of how tough he is to guard off the dodge. I assume even if he does get some run there it will be limited, since we are in more desperate need of his services on defense, but to run him both ways as a wrinkle in things would be great.

But if he can stay on and be a legitimate threat in early offense or right after a faceoff win, that would add an element they haven’t really had since Peter Dearth.
