2025 Preseason Camp Thread

Both Deuce and Grant missed a lot of tackles last year and took a bunch of bad angles. I don’t think either is good in coverage.

I don’t like Deuce as a S. He will make a great play occasionally but most plays I think he is overmatched. I rather see him play as a 3rd CB.

What about their play last year makes you think different? Grant’s 2-3 big hits? Deuce at least caused some nice TOs. That's nice but I’ll give those up for consistently solid play.

We were 14th in ACC games for 10+ and 20+ yards runs conceded. Tied for 13th in 40+ yard passes. And 16th in Comp %. Those aren’t all on them, but they are somewhat on them.
Grant essentially won the Miami game

Duce was probably directly responsible for 3-4 TD’s over the middle, large chunk plays where he took bad angles.

We should be a lot better vs the run this year.

We were tied for 15th in Sacks/G in ACC play last year. We didn’t blitz much last year. Will that change?
Having a full rotation of defensive tackles will be a huge positive for the run defense. The injuries really took an already pedestrian unit down. If not for Watson being so good,it would have been take ugly.

The improvement in depth and size will be important. It will probably also free up the game planning. The defensive game plan won't need to be built around accounting for sub par defensive line plan next year. My hope is that it will allow more blitzing and a more effective pass rush from ends and linebackers.

That’s a great painting and great museum. A very well-known Seurat painting is there too. We’re highbrow on this board…
Was there with my son back in June. I didn’t do a lot of research ahead of time, walked in cold. Was working thru that room, looked to my left at the next painting and thought, well here’s “Nighthawks” HOLY .

Impressionist collection is good, and “American Gothic” is there too. I really liked the big portrait of Erik Satie by Casas.

I think I now know how my wife feels when I talk about football.

this is where some fans need to take off the orange colored glasses with Fran. He repeatedly said he put Deuce at S to improve his pro appeal. I always found that irksome. Deuce isn’t sniffing the league and he better helps the team as a corner.

I’m glad they are focusing on tackling and angles to the football. We talked about it all last season about how poor they were at times.
The last few years tackling has been abysmal... at least this coaching staff and players are owning it. The messaging is crystal clear on that and a plethora of other things players have been repeating in interviews.

I'm curious to know how we are handling the DE positions and what the depth chart will look like. With Jobity near 300 lbs and now moving inside we are very thin there. Even Jaylen Pray is listed at 290 lbs. Really seems like we should have brought in another DE from the portal. Staying healthy with that group could be very significant. I assume Jacquez, David O and Reese will get the most run by far.

I would guess Lesaine will be dropping down on the line as he is listed at 6'-4" and 250 lbs.
Could maybe Caden Brown? He is just 6'-4" and 225 though. But I think it was stated he was actually getting snaps at the STAR so moving the other way.
Are we going to play big some of the time and Jobity also gets snaps at DE or a guy like Hastings plays some DE at 310? or Perry or EFC as both of them are at 295?
Or maybe if a starter gets injured, its more likely McDonald gets moved down to DE at some point in the season?
Anybody hear about how Nyandoro is looking? Seems hard to count on a freshman contributing much at DE.

DE
Denis Jacquez Jr.
Jahide Lesaine Jr.
Jaylen Pray

DE
David Omapariola Or
David Reese
Nathan Nyandoro

Rooks, Thomas and Reese didn't come here to not play. Seems like Tank is going to be the cornerstone but still have Jobity, Jaquez (who was much improved last year) , Perry, Slimey, etc as well in rotation. We could go Jobity, Tank, Thomas, Rooks across the front 4 and be massive and get pressure by simply collapsing the pocket. We used to struggle to have DTs that were big enough, now we bigs that are athletic enough to play end and set edge while collapsing the pocket

Remember when we had to go to the 3-3-5 because Syracuse could not recruit big athletic DTs.

Compared to years passed…..we are still way ahead I think at least size wise and depth

I really think Perry can do damage when they let the dline loose. He is extremely quick. Just hoping they let them attack this yearor hunt instead of what actually happened.
