2025 Preseason Camp Thread

I don't believe there's a lot of paywall worthy info coming from Axe's text service. Also, a media company shouldn't be running a text service when they have a perfectly good website to write practice reports on if they are getting that information.

My other big complaint is all the articles that are written are based off of two to three soundbites from the media availability from each practice. If you watch those videos, you can see the story being written before it comes out. It's just shoddy journalism.
Information has to be a two way street. If a coach shuts out the local media, the coverage isn't going to good even if you had Edward R Murrow doing the coverage. Players agents only call the national guys because that gets them stuff. Coaches do the same thing. And then we complain when the locals don't get scoops.

Reese had 11.5 sacks at an ACC School. Diggs had 7.5 last year. Diggs is a dawg but played out of position a lot last year. Mcdonald has proven on the field. He had a strong 2023. You also give no freshman credit. There are some freshman on this team who are physically ready to play. Deslauriers is going to get reps at LB and Nyandoro and D End. Samuels talents trump his age. Anyone asked about him says that. I didn't project anything in my prior post, I stated facts. There's a difference.
Reese had 11 in 2 seasons at Cal, not 1.

Yes, but with the Axe text service you find out what day it is. For example, did you know that yesterday was National Thrift Store Day? Well, now you do.

I certainly don't know but It could be a statement against DE depth however. I think of Malachi James as running plays mostly outside the tackles as that is mostly what he had done in HS. I wouldn't be surprised if the issues were DE's losing outside containment. All just speculation on my part but that it what I first thought of when i read it.
Hopefully it's that he's just so fast that he could not be contained.

The text said he had four plays for negative yards, correct? So, it sounds to me like a very good Barry Sanders type of day; a few times he gets caught at/behind the LOS, but once he gets through...yeah, good luck.

(I'm NOT saying he is the next Barry Sanders...but I'm not saying he couldn't be, either)

If anyone ever tries to claim we have a RB who is the next Barry Sanders, they should be permamently banned for stupidity.

They can be allowed back when he runs for 2900 yards (in 12 games instead of Barry's 11) and wins the Heisman.

If there was a way to keep records for forcing defenders to grab air while attempting to tackle, Barry's number would be dramatically higher than anyone else. Watching his highlights makes me laugh, he was so sick.

Agreed 100%. It's clear the local media has been completely shut out, which I am surprised about because I didn't expect that from Fran.

I once saw a highlight reel called "Barry Sanders Amazing Runs." It was 100 minutes long... Then they said to stay tuned for part 2.

Is this AI? If not, maybe this person should take a semester at Newhouse. Awfully written "article".

Starting Angeli is the smart play. He has slightly more experience in meaningful situations.

Almost see this like the Allen/Hunt situation in 2013. Hunt was patient and ended up being the QB for the bulk of the season. Hopefully, Angeli does a lot better than Allen obviously.
Except it was clear Allen was “promised” the job. He sucked. If there was a real competition like this year, then Hunt would have won.

I don't mind it, I think he probably regrets naming Rickie the starter after the spring (regret may be a strong word, but it probably caused him headaches being asked about it constantly) and a few other very minor slip ups in the media that have him wanting to just lock things down.
True. Also using the words “his to lose” was a mistake, which would lead some to believe Collins “lost” it, rather than Angeli winning it.

I’m sure he learned a few lessons here. No big deal though. Collin’s seams like a great kid, a team guy and should get live reps in the first few games.

The reason I referred to B.Sanders was just to say that some of the gaudy numbers he (Malachi) put up in practice may have been less about deficiencies on defense, and more about his speed/skill--and maybe some credit to the offense's blocking (O-line, TE, receivers).

They haven’t been shut out. They’ve had more media availabilities during the fall and spring than they did under Dino. Just because they didn’t break this doesn’t mean they’re shut out. They also could break stuff themselves. They don’t need handouts.

The reality is a story on espn.com and tweets from thamel are worth more than a story on Syracuse.com for our program. The local guys will still cover it after the fact and more of our fans can read it without a paywall on ESPN.com. Non paywalled sites get far more eyeballs if you care about reach and attention. My alum friends saw this story and texted me about it way faster than if Syracuse post standard had written about it first.
