2025 Preseason Camp Thread

Oh my

And yes I've analyzed who's playing with who in this...lol
QB - Collins
C - Josh Miller
LG - TJ Ferguson
RG - Byron Washington
R OT - Witherspoon
L OT - ?
TE - Villari
RB - Willis
WR - Cook
WR- Gill
WR - JRS

This pretty much confirms that the OL is still shuffling to find the best guys. So much depth there, this could very well be the 2nd string OL for all we know. It is pretty notable that Byron Washington keeps popping up in these though at Guard...that dude is gonna play

I had a chance to meet and spend time with Byron. What a nice young man. So polite and articulate. In addition to being the biggest human being I have ever met. I'm not small and I felt like an ant next to him. I personally have never been around a Syracuse team that is as physically impressive as this one. We will not be out muscled by any team on our schedule and some of our players are not only large, but they look like they mean business. Some bad ass dudes on this team

So, some interesting tidbits there. Glad to hear that Bryant [transfer LB] is everything he was cracked up to be. Axe said that at the practices he attended, Bryant was tough against the run, forced some turnovers, is a big hitter, and excels in coverage -- a guy who won't come off the field much. EXACTLY what we needed to infuse some juice to the LB corps.

Also indicated that Heard has taken a sizeable step forward, and that he, Bryant, and McDonald seem like the starting group.
So he posted what SuDadX2 shared essentially, coincidentally a day later. Brent doing Brent things.

Thought I read Nixon has older children at SU? I think if Syracuse offense is again prolific this season and the team finds 8 wins with this killer schedule, I think Nixon is gonna get an offer he can't refuse. People thought Nixon was gone after this past season and he came back though. I think a middle of the road season and he stays through 2026.
He has a son on the team and his daughter transferred to play soccer. I'd be shocked if he stays with us beyond this year. We need to enjoy him while we get him. He will get a big NFL OC job or I hope, a HC job. He deserves it. Great coach and person. He stuck around to coach his son one more year and because he loves Fran.

Simply a guess, but there is an emphasis these days to cross train the OLine in practice. Tackles play Guard, Guards play center. Centers play guard. You get the point. Promotes flexibility, depth and knowledge of the objective of the offense. If Fran adheres to this concept, it might not be worth the time hyper analyzing who is playing where and with whom. That said, with only 1 returning starter up front, they may be ignoring that trend for now and prioritizing the selection of the starters and two-deep.

Just food for thought.

Good to know Reese is looking great. Probably says something about what he is going up against at LT. I'm sure there has been a few pieces there being tested out. Sounds like we are still trying to get a LT up to speed. That spot is probably still up in the air and most concerning as would be expected. But hopefully with more and more reps in camp someone gets better and better and starts to look solid there.

Not being a coach and not even staying at Holiday Inn Express, I’d think it means going up to attack the ball at its apex and grab it with the hands instead of waiting for it to come to you.
I'd guess it also means adjusting your route so the ball doesn't land in your hands low while your feet are on the ground but instead running it so you need to go up and grab it. Makes it much harder on the DB's to defend.

I've always hated when I hear commentators describe it like that. Nobody is catching a deep ball at ITS apex. That would be like 20 feet off the ground or more. What we want guys to do is catch it at THEIR apex.

Nitpicking. Clearly means the ball’s apex in the vicinity of the receiver and within his catch radius. Or the vertical part of it to be more precise ;)
