2025 Ryder Cup

Those prices are crazy. I have a feeling that people entering the "lottery" for tickets are going to have much better odds than normal to get tickets. I'm not sure if they overshot demand at that price or not. Probably not, but it could be close.

They tried to charge $225-$260 (fees incl) for GA at the President's Cup In Montreal (obviously a much lower prestige event)-- and they clearly overshot demand, and ultimately prices on the secondary market ended up being about 25%-50% of that amount. I ended up paying $160 for 2 days total on StubHub, including parking. Even though it was not sold out, it was still packed. I wonder how many people they would have squeezed in

What is annoying is the lack of grandstands the PGA tour now has for events that are available for general admission... while they create a whole bunch of seats for luxury suites. I remember going to events in the 2000-2010 and many grandstands were available with easy seating for General Admission fans. But it gets less and less that is open to the minions.

At the Pres Cup it was only 1, 3, 16, 17, 18. At $750 I hope they build a few more grandstands for GA fans.

They were having a discussion on the golf show on XM about the presidents cup and talking about attendance. They said that Canada has realized that the only place they can have a tournament and get attendance is around Toronto. They lose money on anything else up there.

I dont know that that the secondary pricing means much . because I suspect like down here people buy the multi day pass at the cheaper rates and then sell off tickets to make up the money . did they offer all session for the Presidents cup?

Not selling all day sessions is clearly trying to remove the resale value

Yes, a lot of people in the lottery won't pay $750, but there will still be enough people who will to justify the price. It's NYC, anything goes. If you are willing to pay $750, you won't get shut out. Curious if ticket brokers will buy the tickets to resell at $1000.

There were no all session passes for the President's Cup — at least for general admission. It was all sold on a per day basis.

I think they will cut it close to a sellout (and I think that's there objective) and the lottery is basically meaningless at this point.

If you are trying to max-out revenue the goal is to set the pricing that will cut it close on the sell-out - just getting there if it does. That has become the reality today. $750 at 90% capacity will do a whole lot better than $350-$400 at 100% capacity. And even if only 80%-90% of the fans were there the place would still be packed and rockin with the same Home Course Advantage.

I don't know how many % of seats were not sold for the President's Cup, but I couldn't imagine how packed the course would have been say if 20% more were there. It was hard to even get views at some holes if you tried following groups.
 
For maybe the first time ever, I think the Euros have the better side.
 
I'm giving the Euros a very slight advantage in talent, but the home course crowd will be a more important factor.

I would send out Cantley first on Sunday so he can slow play his opponet to death. I would not send Xander out much due to lack of playing. For the US to win Henley, English and Griffin need to continue to play great golf.
 
All of these guys are studs/winners/strong players, so I think any person/pairing could win any match up.

The ones I think are more likely to under perform are: Morikawa, Sepp, Thomas, and Schauffele.

I'd like to watch but some Canadian Cable Providers (not all) can't seem to figure out how simulcasts are supposed to work. Bunch of morons.

Unfortunately, it appears that Keegan Bradley's legacy as a Ryder Cup captain is not going to be very good. But, it's not all his fault. The Europeans are just much better players with these formats. Just look at their lifetime results.

And the thought process of the New York crowds having a huge impact are minimized by the experience of the Europeans and the fact that the Euros have been taking the crowd out of play.
