2026 Portal Visitors

I agree with this, but it’s always ideal to meet these transfers in person and get a real feel for them. This is only the second day of what’s essentially a 14-day process, and even longer when you factor in visits and decisions. I hope we go after those Georgia defensive linemen and a few other key targets, but I’m not going to panic until the portal is closed and the roster is fully set.
I'm not sure many that have been part of the playoffs have yet announced. Have to think Fran will be after UGA players BUT only after Kirby makes his decisions on them. It's the proper way to handle things with such a respected mentor.

A couple Alabama , Osu and Georgia players have entered so far I expect more in the coming days.

Wasn’t Rickie Collins second string at LSU?

People need to stop worrying about about the school the player comes from. They’re second or third string for a reason.

Give me a kid that is a fit that has PLAYED GAMES over a kid that sits at a P4 school.

Case in point:
Jared Verse - Ualbany
Chamblis (QB at Ole Miss) - Division 2!!!
Can Skattebo - Sac State (I believe)

I could go on.

Yeah I feel like a target for this portal cycle is previous production. Sure there will be some power 4 backups that haven’t been able to crack their lineups but there seems to be a much lower floor with a lot of those guys (albeit higher ceiling with most). IMO we need guys with experience that can help us immediately and get us back on track. It might not be as glamorous as bringing in former 4 star with zero production but it’s proven to be effective at Indiana if you can get the right players and coaches.

That’s a disappointing list

Eh... it works both ways.

Personally speaking, I'm hoping we land multiple players from Toledo, and 1 or 2 from Georgia State on the d-line. If you had told me that a month ago, I'd be underwhelmed. But given the coaching staff changes and the performance of the team defense at Toledo, my perspective has shifted.

And what I mean about working both ways is that we've had players like Miller [Georgia] who never made an impact, or Collins [LSU] who underwhelmed.

Point being, it is hard to tell from just the school alone.

Production > potential that’s what Curt Cignetti preaches.

I'm not sure we need to get every transfer target on campus. We may choose to bit these aren't HS kids with 2-3 years to make a decision. Transfers have been through the recruiting cycle and will know of other schools and coaches prior to entertaining new destinations.
Especially for guys who have played for a coach already like Toledo ones.

Exactly. The biggest offseason move we made was at DC.

Hung out with an avid Ohio State fan / alum yesterday, who was doubly glum over [1] the loss on Wednesday night, and [2] that they are beginning to see a mass exodus of players.

I totally get that. I’m not looking at the school. I’m totally basing it off the player. I was hoping for all league G5/FCS. Kvon Sherman for example. I don’t want kids that can’t crack the lineups at SEC/B10. If they can’t crack lineups there, how are they going to help? I’ll wait for the final haul, but these guys just won’t cut it.

“Couldn’t crack the lineup”.

Comes to Cuse, shows out, made his way to the League.

With all due respect, i love the DC move, but you still need the dudes to win. This years defense totally lacked for talent. It had to be the worst in years. Even with a good DC, you’re not winning with that type of talent. You need some difference makers. I like Samuels and Peal. I like Tremble. AD should continue to improve, but i feel he was a bit over rated, especially in coverage. The guys on this list are just filler. I’ll wait to see who we bring in, but they’re going to need a lot more than a couple Toledo guys and the guys mentioned. Very best next year is setting up to be a rebuild year playing mostly young kids.

What’s wrong with the players?? Could you elaborated?
I think the transfers we brought in last year mostly didn’t meet expectations. That said, some of these guys who are coming on visits at least showed production. We also have a more experienced coaching staff this year, which should help in developing players—something we struggled with last season.

Hopefully he plays in the league , he’s just on the PS now. I absolutely loved Meeks. Couldn’t ask for an anything more in a player, but he’s 1 out of how many others that flopped? For how many Meeks we’ve had i can name 5 flops. He was an outlier.

Last year was rough—our X’s and O’s were weak, and there was essentially no player development. We were outcoached in nearly every game, which put us at a significant disadvantage. The defense struggled, largely due to poor tackling and a lack of discipline.

I hated the guys we brought in last year. I’m comparing it to the first year haul. I like the potential in the Deleware St Rb, but the rest are just role players at best.

Kvon Sherman would be a great guy to add.

What do you think about the high school recruiting class? Keep in mind that true freshmen can contribute right away and be very effective, as we’ve seen over the last couple of years.

And lack of talent. Tell me who was good on last years defense. Even Samuels, who showed potential got beat up at times being a 17 year old.

I loved this years class, but you aren’t going to win with true freshman. We somehow have to keep them until their juniors and possibly
seniors to maximize their potential.
