2026 Potential Roster / Portal Entries

I am too lazy to look but wondering if there are any defensive kids who transfered out of toledo to bag chase and will wind up at Syracuse to come back to play for Kehres

DL Hazelwood RS Soph and only played 8 games
LB Sherman (might be their best player) 94 tkls 14.5 TFL, & 4.5 sacks
CB Awls 5 INTs and 4 PBUs
LB D'Appolonia 68 Tkls, 3.5 TFL, 1 sack, & 4 PBUs

Those are the ones that have officially annouced, I'm sure they will have more on the 2nd.

I'm hoping for Awls and Sherman.

I wonder, overall and SU specifically, how many of these are:
a) going to the open market to enhance leverage with current team;
b) I am so out of here
c) My agent has my new gig already lined up
d) you can stay, but you won't play.

I have a feeling most are option D and then followed way behind with option B

For SU, I doubt there's any in a.

Probably a combo of b and d. Although I'd probably alter d to say you won't play and you can't stay. We need the roster space.

I don't know enough about what agents are able to line up to comment about c. But if they do, I'd think that only applies to Gill and Willis.

If you are losing 20-25 guys with eligibility and 75% are leaving because they don’t see a path to playing time and are replaced with better guys, how is that a bad thing?

I get optics, but it’s not necessarily a disaster.

Correct we've lost some starters and some that have a bright feature with lots of time left in Barnes and Watson.
Overall the portal has been great for us. It has allowed Fran to jump start the cultural that normally took a few years.
Yes our very depleted QB was not filled up as quickly as it should have been with the miss on Rickie and it might end up being a blessing in disguse as it exposed ALL the other cracks that McCord and co covered up in 2024.

We don’t know if they’ll be replaced by better guys. And better guys are expensive.

What’s happening to us isn’t a bad thing at all—we went 3-9 last season, so some changes were necessary. We need to cut off a lot of the baggage from last year while keeping key young underclassmen like Samuels, Byron, and Antoine Deslauriers. Let’s also not forget the talented freshmen we signed who are coming in and ready to make an impact. This mix of experienced underclassmen and incoming talent gives us a solid foundation to build on.

The best guys are expensive. We've had a bunch of walk ons and kids not on the 2 deep leave (minus a few). Those type of players are fairly easy to replace.
Sure we are not going to build a $5 million dollar defensive line this off season but we will greatly improve the rooster.

Players can portal anytime prior to the portal closing, correct? So, we’ll need to worry about players leaving right up to January 16th?
Yes, but the majority of players are going to enter the portal within the first days of it opening. You have portalers that have agents who are already making contact with schools prior to the grand opening on 1/2/26. I think of the ones entering the portal later most would likely be those players still competing in the playoffs.
