2026 Potential Roster / Portal Entries

As I'm sure you know, Fran is very adamant that he wants his assistant coaches to move in and make a name for themselves. He always so and so won't be here long. Contrary to that approach, last week Fran stated Gattis "will be with me for a long time". To me that sounds like he's Fran's guy.
Bigger mistake IMO than ERob. Hope I am wrong.

I wonder what his strategy is. Personally I would go one recruited over or doesn't fit the system kid from a big school and one FCS kid.
Yeah it's important that they get someone who played a significant amount this year who they know can steady the ship and at least be a game manager and give them a chance to win if he has to play a few games. That's probably an FCS kid.

Agree. I really can see the kid from West Carolina, his stats are insane but he is short, which might scare off other P4s who could otherwise give him a shot to start

Not sure this will get approved. I would be his 7th year of college ball.

Seems it was the first Fran heard of it on the radio show as well??
Which is strange your OC would not given you a heads up his son wanted to come back. Maybe he knows but did not want it out to affect the portal.

Yeah, seems like not everyone on the same page on this communication-wise.

I’m not sold on Angeli as the answer at QB next year. And I’m tired of hearing about how he was “leading the nation in passing.” It’s easy to pad stats against UConn and Colgate. Let’s not forget the season opener against a borderline Top 25 team. Angeli was supposed to be ready for the spotlight after stepping in for ND in the playoffs last year. Instead, he looked pedestrian, and after he gave up a scoop and score at the end of the first it was pretty much game over. He finished with a 48.6 rating.

We need to make a move. One QB, not a handful of portal flyers. Bringing in multiple guys just feels like Fran throwing darts and hoping one hits. I’d love to see someone like Tavien St. Clair or Kenny Minchey in Orange next year. If we have to take a second portal QB, make it a low-risk swing like Colton Joseph or maybe roll the dice on another SEC castoff, like Jackson Arnold.

Bottom line: Angeli should not be handed the starting job. Let him earn it in camp, if he’s even ready.

I don't think lack of ability is an issue with Angeli but how he bounces back from a major injury is a complete unknown.

Broken record but if we can get an OL coach worth a damn he will be fine if healthy.

Did you watch him against Clemson? Guys pad stats against bad teams all of the time.

Solid disagree on Angeli. But bring in more QB’s who can play immediately for sure.

I don't disagree that we should be looking to upgrade QB if possible in the portal.

I don't consider Kenny Minchey much of an upgrade on anyone though

I disagree as he started a little slow but was starting to make Kyle like throws that we need in this offense. He will be the starter for sure but we need to make sure the backup is very capable of winning games and I’m sure they are not gonna let what happened this year happen again. I think with Steve we win all but duke and Notre dame.

Unreal. Now Angeli is the next McCord? Sorry but he’s not close. Yeah he “started slow” vs Tennessee then lit up UConn and Colgate.
I said he was making Kyle like throws. Throwing guys open and or just hitting spots that our receivers could catch it. Now with who is playing we are hoping the throws are within 5 yds of our receivers. Fran is going with Angelli whether u like it or not as he has said numerous times. He also doesn’t need to be Kyle if he is more efficient.

I don’t have an ax to grind. I just want a winning football team. And I’m tired of the hype around Angeli. In the 3½ games he played, he didn’t show me enough to justify being handed the starting job. He should have to earn it in camp, not be crowned by default.
Well, he was leading the country in passing. Worth something. And you bad mouth UConn (never a bad thing), but they were 9-3 and beat Duke and BC.

Nobody has forgotten who we played when Angeli was QB. All P4 teams play lower level teams to start the season.

I did. You're going to hand over the reins without question because of one decent game? By the way, Clemson isn't good this year.
Steve will be given the reigns if he is healthy and better than the QB2 we bring in. Instead of worrying about him being handed the reigns, worry about him being healthy and about QB2 being viable

There it is again. "Leading the country in passing". Maybe that had something to do with the 382 yards and 5 TD he put against COLGATE. We should beat UConn every year. and they took us to OT. Go check out UConn's schedule and you'll see why they're 9-3.
He had 416 against UConn and was headed to 350+ against Clemson. I get your point, but we shouldn't diminish what he was doing this season.

He also threw a pick and coughed up a fumble that had UConn in front until we rallied late. And now you are acting like he was headed for 350 against Clemson? Please. That’s pure hype. Just as likely he was headed for a pick six or a scoop and score that would’ve changed the game. Stop acting like he’s the savior.
Did Angeli steal your girlfriend or something? He had 245 yards against Clemson. If he hadn’t gotten hurt, the only reason he may not have thrown for 350 was if we stayed very conservative with the lead. Or else he would have gotten there or been close.

If you want to keep anointing Angeli as QB1, fine, but let’s be real. I want him to prove he’s a viable QB1, especially coming off injury. What I really want is an outstanding QB2 who can take all the meaningful snaps. Don’t just hand Angeli the job. make him earn it, and if he doesn't then he's a legit backup ready to step in and run the show.

"Outstanding" is an expensive standard for a QB2.

With only so much money to go around, what are you willing trade to get an "outstanding QB2"?

DL? OL? We have a lot of needs.

I’m not slamming him. I’m just keeping it real. We need another QB who’s proven or one with serious upside like St. Clair or Minchey, and let them battle it out. Don’t just hand the job over, make it earned. QB1 shouldn’t be a participation trophy handed out by default.
You can argue til you’re blue in the face.Going back to his short performance in the College Football Playoff the year before and his few games here, the guy has been very good. You’re not going to get many that agree with you here or anywhere.
