So we lost Rickie, Jakhari and Carney. We gained Odom, Lauter and Lott as a freshman.

So depth chart is Angeli, Odom, Lauter, Lott, and Filardi?

I love that we could have Angeli two more years but the fact that we could have him for two more years has made recruiting QB dpeth much harder. All is fine if he's good to go for 2025, but if not it is not looking good as we would have Odom and then...Lauter or a true freshman in Lott??? Ugh.

I knew the situation was going to be more difficult to bring in another solid QB after the solid Odom get but this is disappointing for QB3. Especially considering the QB's we were hoping for in Atkinson, Dickens, Novosad etc. Yes Fran promised to bring in 2 more QB's but I was hoping this one after Odom was going to be more of a 2/3 string level of QB and I don't quite feel like it is. A player that can at least give a fighting shot against Odom for a starting role if Angeli isn't good to go. It seemed like that was the plan and I don't feel like Lauter is in that realm.

Lauter's 2024 stats were 185 yds passing per game at 61.4% 11TD to 10 INT. 2025 stats were 206 yds/game 61.4% and 5TD to 1 INT. I mean Lauter's stats against weak competition in 2024 were not that great. He played in just 3 games in 2025 and a tad better but still nothing great. I mean he is playing against weak competition and not exactly excelling. We are talking Wagner level teams which was actually 1 of the 3. We are familiar with that level of talent. Davidson, Wagner and Lafayette were the 3. The jump to P4 is a big jump. And he is not a runner at all according to his rushing stats as his he rushed for total of 10 total yds in a season.

I believe this gives us insight into how well Angeli is recovering and the realistic projections from the docs. Once Odom committed then it was truly QB3 up for grabs, the recruits knew it, and it is what it is. (That won't stop some from griping, calling Fran a bad recruiter, etc.)

I'd say we have 2 bunches. Angeli and Odom will compete for QB1, then it's Lauter and Lott competing for QB3.

I mean nobody should call him a bad recruiter. That would just be ridiculous. Its just the situation we are in with Angeli made things very difficult. Not saying its his fault at all.

If Angeli is good to go then we are OK and about where a P4 team should be with QB depth, But if not, its SUPER sketchy.

Honestly who the hell wants to come in being QB3?
It's almost an impossible sell.
Can you image if your work was like yeah here is the promotion you've wanted BUT you'll be third and line and so will your salary...

I mean its bizarro really.

Im just happy we were able to get a guy who has seen Division 1 football at some point in his career and was a starter for there.

Who knows the season he would have had last year if he did not get hurt.

He played three games last season and had 618 yards with 5 touchdowns and an INT.

Pretty good get IMO to be the 3rd string qb.

We are complaining about a QB3 who theoretically should NEVER see the field and we wanted someone better?

Thats...something.
I 100% agree with this. You need a good viable back up. Syracuse isn’t going to waste NIL dry powder paying a 3rd string QB and no QB worthy of playing time is going to come to Syracuse to sit and just cash a small check. Those types want to play and they only have so much time. The 3rd stringer is always going to be a wildcard or a true freshman.

I have been so confused why we would ever pay a 3rd string QB. The problem last year is and always was that the staff 100% whiffed on Rickie Collins nothing more nothing less.

Honestly I am not sure what you want the staff to do. Even in pre NIL days most schools had maybe 2 quality QB's on the roster and usually a project guy or a walk on or 2 as their depth beyond the starter and the back up. Your not going to get another high end QB to come in after landing Odom who already has to battle Angeli for the job. A majority of these QBs want to have a shot at playing it's why they are in the portal. Lauter is brought in to be an emergency QB 3/4 who can run scout team and in a repeat of last year at least give you someone who has some experience and can hopefully give you a fighting chance until Angeli or Odom are healthy again.

The only way your getting another Odom like guy is if your offering major money (likely $500K+) for someone to be a 3rd stringer which even most of the power schools aren't doing and most QBs are going to pass on. Syracuse isn't Ohio State, were not gonna run 4 deep at QB.

Exactly.

And in fairness to this staff, I know for a fact they did their due diligence on this player. We did not even offer until he got to campus and did a full workout.

Agreed, I'm trilled with the QB room at this point

Totally with you on this...but 2025 also just happened, so I get that point as well. I am confident in our current position.

Not by spring but there's hope he will be good to go by Summer camp. Hearing he's not gonna be ready to do almost anything during spring practice.

Yes, hearing the same thing. Will be very limited in Spring but the hope is to be ready to start diving in by the start of August.

Obviously its an injury and anything can happen.

I think it's understandable for some to be disappointed when the insiders here were posting confidently we would be getting 1 of Atkinson or Dickens as our 3rd QB. I'm not sure why the disappointment is a surprise.

Ehhh don't remember seeing those posts, but I can tell you, true insiders have known for a couple weeks about the Gtown QB and that he was on campus and that he would likely be the 3rd stringer.

It also really important to remember that we are talking about the lives of 18,19,20 year olds and things can literally change in an instance.

For example, Gill was expected to land at Michigan. Is that where he ended up? No.

Spot on, now stop making sense.

I really don't know what we were expecting for a QB3. He's got a pulse and has started college games before. Sounds good to me! If he is seeing the field things went horribly wrong.
Or exceptionally right. It’s all a guess

History says your guess is correct though

No doubt that’s what’s going to happen from a practice perspective, but heard from the horses mouth he’s feeling great and by all accounts thinks he’s ahead of schedule.

These Angeli injury posts makes it sound like Odom will be QB1 for spring practices. If Odom is that good, it might even be difficult for Steve to regain #1 status if he isnt fully ready to go until late summer.
