2027 Recruiting

People always get mad when I say it, but ask yourself why UNC always underperforms. If you're getting recruits mainly for the ancillaries over the actual lacrosse, it's not hard to figure out.

I don't think many folks here are mad when you say it - just a little more cautious. I think everyone recognizes that UNC's playoff performance hasn't quite matched their level of recruiting, but UNC also hasn't strung together recruiting classes quite like these last few years, and they're just starting to get going on campus. They've brought in some highly touted players, sure, but their incoming freshmen class and the class of '27 in particular are at another level. They could be just talented enough even for Breschi not to screw things up. And, even with them underwhelming the last few years, they're still 3-2 against Syracuse the past 4 seasons, including a win last year where they were up 6 goals late.

If UNC doesn't get over the hump with these upcoming classes, that'll be pretty obviously bad for Breschi. But something tells me they will have no trouble soon enough. Just have to hope Cuse has the firepower and poise to get it done this year.

So this was my recruit for this weekend. Syracuse offered on Labor Day. At least one Big Ten school also offered. He's played left attack since 7th grade (was a midfielder as a youth). Moved to Sweetlax last fall (from Albany Power) and was told he was a middie as they were stacked at attack. Really had a strong summer and had some positive social media attention which helped move him from a regional recruit to a national level recruit.

The kicker is he's pretty young. He's a "summer baby" at an Upstate public high school. Canadiens like Kruger are almost two full years older and I'd guess most national level '28s are as old or older than he is with all the reclassing. Some NE Prep schools have been courting him but he hasnt shown a strong interest as far as i know.

Michael Leo is the comp. Not a complete burner or jitter bug, but fast enough, shifty enough, with real good body control.
Do you know if he’s still coming to campus? I hope so. Despite getting commits from other midfielders in this class, it would be great if the staff kept the lines of communication open. He may have a change of heart over the next year or so—like Rawson.
