3 wasted years

Great Gerry hate guys.
What a fan base on this board.
No one hates Gerry. Not one post has said that.

A lot of people are skeptical of the hire. If Gerry McNamaras career was the exact same except he grew up in Strongsville, OH and won a national title at Louisville and made it to the NCAAs as the head coach of Austin Peay …. He literally wouldn’t be on our list top 25 candidates most likely. Nothing in the metrics show Anything special on either side of the ball.

I am well aware people will say “his guys play hard!!” Great … I’m sure they do. I’m sure they would at Austin Peay because that’s how he coaches. But there are a ton of good coaches that can do that … with a more proven track record.

I’m happy he went here, but he got the job because he went here.

I also believe that the NIL factor is real …. And i understand why GMac draws the most NIL cash from the donor base … I get all the reasons.

Based on some reactions here GMac is the best choice for the general fan base, which I get it too.

GMac probably offers the most ROI for the admin for the immediate future. Donor support + ticket sales + higher general fan interest + easy espn/media headlines…..it may not look good initially on the court but the general vibes will be good .

Hodgson would probably be met with less excitement overall by the fanbase than GMac will. Based on posts here by people who would know …. The donor support wasn’t quite there for BH. Easy to see how that leads to less excitement in the general fan base.

I just don’t think the best choice was made for the basketball product on the court. It seemed like the emphasis was what the drive the most initial revenue

Why is this so hard for people to accept?

A lot of you are insufferable & miserable. Really behind gmac and give him a chance….

Who said he's not gonna be given a chance??

It can be argued he was not the best candidate available and still be supported by most everyone.

It's ok to say that, even if you don't agree, and it's not a conspiracy.

We can all walk and chew gum and agree to disagree. It doesn't make someone that disagrees with you insufferable and miserable.

What I find insufferable are people who want to jump on a lot of diehard fans for not agreeing with them that this decision was the best one. I think the Gerry hire was BS. It was never about hiring the best coach for the job. That's what bothers me. Eventually I'll support Gerry but my support to Syracuse took a hit today. I really thought they would do what's best for the program and find a way. They did not.

If they had made the right call 3 years ago we would be in front of our TVs right now chewing on finger nails and washing them down with booze.
It’s pretty obvious why SU went with Red even though most knew he wasn’t the best in-house guy to replace JB.

I think we may have or guy for the next 20 years now. Fingers crossed.

I’ve been for McNamara since he walked off the court on his senior day.

Get ready for another 3-5 wasted years, and at that point we might be cooked.
Love the optimism, nice !! There seems to be this opinion that any body from the “Syracuse family” can’t coach “. Gmac is not Red . Lets give him a chance !

So what did Hodgson do to get on our A list?

He coached Ark st for 2 yrs and thats a step down from Siena.
They made a CBI and an NIT.
He coached one year at USF.

How different is what Jerry did?

USF went 14-18, 25-8, 13-19 then Hodgson went 25-9. Nothing that screams success like up down up down.

Sienna had its best record since 2009.

What if Autry was a 3 year interim while GMAC got some experience/audition as a head coach at another school. A long term plan.

He created a 5D Chess offense that nobody can replicate or something like that.

The Sun Belt is not a worse conference than the MAAC. Ark St is not a step down from Siena.

Siena also had by far the most NIL in their conference.

I don't think it's hard at all
The simple answer is "he did go here", and he didn't coach Austen Peay...and if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle
Concerns are legitimate and important obviously, but any hire is literally a crap shoot. There's no guarantee that any of the other candidates were home runs, so let's put our chips in with a guy who's shown that he has the chops, the will, work ethic, connections, and incoming fan support, to do a better job than what was left.
I think GMac will do well- notwithstanding the typical tired miserably cynical CNY attitude, should things start slow. But Gerry knows this area, he's familiar with the attitudes of some in our fan base who love to spout "I told you so's..." at every stumble.
Fortunately, most fans are excited and looking forward to watching this happen. As always, we shall see

You’re part of the Gaslighting Gang too apparently.

The issue IS NOT that “nobody from the Syracuse family can coach”. The issue IS that the ONLY reason he got the job was he’s “Syracuse family”.

I wish the guys that are 100% behind him could just acknowledge this reality. It would stop you from having to lie endlessly here - and the constant lying is a really bad look. I’m frankly shocked at how many generally decent posters feel the need to lie about the reason GMac is getting hired.

Stop lying.

This should be deleted, personal ( and incorrect) insults shouldn’t fly .I do not refer to people I disagree with as liars .

Nonsense.
He did NOT get the job just because he's family, he actually has a resume to fall back on. You may not care for the quality of his resume, due to inexperience or body of work, etc. but don't denigrate, or yes, HATE on Gerry or the fans who see it differently, especially by calling us liars. That's uncalled for. I believe in what I'm saying, not gaslighting anyone, or making stuff up.

If he grew up in Ohio, won a national championship at Louisville, and had a grand total of TWO YEARS head coaching experience - there is absolutely, positively NO WAY the people excited about GMac would be excited right now.

NO FRIGGIN WAY.

And that is why everyone claiming this isn’t “just about him being a Syracuse guy” are either delusional or lying. Period.

Stop lying.

Not only did he get the job because he's family, but the former HOF coach rigged the NIL process with donors to ensure he got the job.

That's as "family" inside baseball as it gets, I'm afraid.

I certainly don't blame GMAC for any of that.

Why are you intent on twisting yourself into a pretzel on this, being divisive, and calling people haters??

It's OK to say that he wasn't the best candidate and that he got the job because he's family, because it's the TRUTH.

...and it doesn't mean anyone hates him, and it doesn't mean we shouldn't all be 100% behind him. We all should be. I know I am.
