The next time they go for it on 4th and 1, stay in the shotgun formation, or run a play or two each couple of series under center. It was way too predictable when Hunt went under center. I don't know what GMC was thinking. I would have been okay with a bootleg with the option to give it to PTG or Moore. This is something I believe was a turning point. I'm not trying to beat a dead horse but I did not hear this mentioned. If it has, I apologize ahead of time. I will be glued to the tv Friday night

It was predictable, but could have worked if they ran up to the line real quick and did it. Instead, AAM went out and PTG came in, which allowed ND to substitute. This tremendously slowed things down and doesn't give you a chance to catch them off guard whatsoever. Just awful coaching.

my least favorite sequence of the game. here's the problem. if it's 4-down territory and they stack the box super heavy on 3rd, CALL A FN PASS!!!! You have 4th to try to smash them and get the yard. 3rd down should be treated like any other play re: making reads at the line. That was the angriest I've been all year at us.

In my opinion, the best play on that play would have been to line up in shotgun. Then Hunt walk up to the line like he was calling out protection and quick snap sneak. Way to spread the defense out so the line wasn't so stacked. Only times we have gone under center all year is when we run QB sneaks.

Probably not a good idea to run left with the QB with an injured left hip. Normally the QB sneak makes sense, but it was clear Hunt was not 100%.

you mean like ND did to SU when they had 4th and 1 and quickly ran up to the line and snapped the ball while SU was still shuffling in guys and trying to get into position - yeah, that did work very well. The SU coaches should think about trying that.

Can't talk about that play without mentioning the 3rd and 1 play. Appeared to me the RB got enough for the first and was marked a yard short.
It seemed to me we got a handful of bad spots. Not saying it would make a big difference.

Certainly didn't help us. If you watch again pay attention the the linesman coming in from different sides of the field to spot. They are consistantly ~1/2 yard off and then see which 1/2 yard, forward or backwards, they give to which team. The linesman coming from the far side of the field, that couldn't have seen the ball or when the ball carriers knee hit, spotted that one.

We should line up under center and then throw the ball.

This is up there on the "risks we don't take" list for too many head coaches.

I think HCSS should've challenged that spot. Worst case, the refs don't correct it and you have a timeout to get a better play call in than that.

This^^^^^^^^^^

I was shocked when he didn't challenge that.

Lot of great suggestions in this thread. Tough to quick snap on 3rd, so I love the call to audible to a pass that isn't a bubble screen. If it doesn't work, line up so that when the ball is placed back at the spot you quick snap on 4th and 1. You have to make the call to go for it on 4th and 1 on 3rd and 1. Lot's of missteps happened here.

Should have run the play they used on the 2 point conversion. It came up short by about a 1/2 yard but did manage to gain 2 yards.

I was ok with that play. I was angry that they were so predictable sometimes. I knew that Hunt was not going to get the yard. I didn't realize he was leaning to the left. Something did not look right.

Seriously - I see lots of teams (including SU) which would benefit from having a bench coach.
