Practice #6 starts at 9:05 and the first 20 minutes will be open to the media. Presser with Coach Shafer to follow practice.

Practice # 7 at 4:35 is closed.

Syracuse QB AJ Long (upper body) was limited in the open portion of practice. Wasn't given a ball for slides, didn't do QB-C exchange.

Syracuse DT John Raymon (UBI) and OT Denzel Ward (LBI) were limited again.

QB-C exchange features more used of varied cadence today. C Rob Trudo had one snap to Terrel Hunt's feet. Taylor Hindy (3rd) missed a dummy.

Scouts from the New York Giants and Denver Broncos were in attendance.

K Cole Murphy went 3/4 in kicks today. Hit: 25, 25, 39. Missed: 32 (wide left).

All of the freshmen were absent from practice today. They were in a mandatory freshman symposium class. Will be there for the afternoon.

Sophomore WR Steve Ishmael was back taking punts today at the start of practice. First time since early in the week for him.

Was really cool watching LBs coach Clark Lea work with his unit this morning. Without freshmen there, gave a big talk about leadership.

AJ Long warmed up with the quarterbacks but didn't participate in QB-center exchanges and passing to start practice.

Center Kendall Moore worked with TEs despite two centers not working with group (Foster, Duerig). Taylor Hindy missed dummy call at center.

A..J. Long returned to practice this morning in limited fashion. Did not hold a ball in right hand.

Estime struggled with punts for the first time. Dropped one. Nearly dropped another.

Kendall Moore remained with TEs for morning session on Friday as well.

Shafer calls hybrid Erv Philips the standout from today's practice. Kendall Moore also looked good at TE.

Ron Thompson had a lower-body injury and will be out for a couple weeks. Uh oh.

Shafer on Wisconsin; it's a ways off. It will be a good experience for our kids.

Shafer on scheduling: "You always play up. You just don't want to play three or four up."

Shafer: you always want to play up, you just don't want to play three or four up. He likes one big, two mid-majors and an FCS.

So Shafer is on board with this year's schedule style moving forward.

Shafer on Thompson and Raymon: our focus is let's go to the next guy and develop them. Not like they are out for the season.

Shafer says we're 21 days out, has time to get Raymon and Thompson back.

Shafer on Simmons and Arciniega: not bad. Looking forward to seeing them tomorrow night.

Shafer on Womack: he looks like he can be pretty good at WR. He's very unselfish. He cut me off and said, "I'm ok, you do what you need."

The injury bug strikes again. Unflocking believeable. Thompson is the one guy on the D we really cannot afford to lose.

Positive out of this morning is that the 2 upperclassman running backs seem to be having a very good camp so far...which they needed and the team needed.

I was going to ask about the RB position today. It's been pretty quiet on that front. Wonder how Strickland is doing, if he's going to get any run this year.
