A.J.Long

Long was thrown into the mix way before he was ready.

Having said that, I think he's too small, slow and weak in the arm to feel all that optimistic. I don't know how much of that can be fixed in the offseason workout program.

As Millhouse said, we should try to get a 5th year from Licata from UB. We should also pray that Edouard shows up and he's as good as his offer list.

I hope youre right Money. There are very few if any positives coming out of this years offense. I was a huge Hunt supporter at the beginning of the year, but man he was downright awful at times. Maybe it was the scheme who knows.
I think it was play calling more than anything else. Yes he missed some throws I thought he should have been making, but why arent there more PA passes for him? I really think the coaches have to do a better job at using his skill set intstead of making him conform to something else.

Did anyone watch Dungeys Highlight vid. I'm still thinking he can' t be that good.

Hunt struggled early on no doubt. But he started slow last year and got better. He would have figured things out. Offense was pitiful with all the other QB's.

Hunt beat up on Wagner and Tulane. He got 7 TDs total in those two games. Then went without a TD pass in the next six games. He ended the year ok in the last few games but unless starting slow means the first ten games, he had a very mediocre year that included some very bad performances.

Until they put a presentable offensive line out their Tom Brady would look bad. Fix that problem first, and then you can worry about who the Quarterback, Running Back, Tight End, and Wide Receivers are.

It's not Long's fault. The o-line sucks and the offensive coordinators both sucked. No QB would have played well this year on this team. There is something there with Long though. Even if he doesn't win the starters job I think we could use him in a "Doug Womack" type role every now and then and throw him out there on offense in some packages to run a play or two to spice things up. The kid has moxie and if used right is a hell of a player I think.

Doug Womack?

Womack could beat Long in a race running backwards.

I just don't see Long as being part of our future.

If I had it my way, Long, Kimble and Wilson would never play another down.

On one leg.

Long isn't that fast, and he isn't that elusive. Never more apparent than at the 5 yard line when he ran head on into the one guy who could tackle him.

Are you people forgetting how absolutely awful Hunt looked this year?

Long looked like a deer in the headlights today.

Right , even if Hunt plays the same way next year it will still be better than what AJ Long can offer. He is not that guy. I just dont see it. Hunt gives us the best chance next year period.

I wish Broyld could play qb next year

This has zero chance of happening.

You're comparing the potential abilities of what will be a fifth year guy coming off an injury versus what will be a true sophomore who got thrown into a hot mess of a situation. Unless you think Hunt is miles ahead of AJ, you have to go with the guy that still has potential. You know what you have with Hunt.

Go with the guy with the most potential? How about go with a guy who won games before. His job is on the line next year man. AJ needs to be lights out passer next year. What do you see that says he is that? I seen alot of true freshmans thrown into fires. He didnt show anything that says he is going to be so much better. He is small, not fast, not strong and doesnt read coverages well. I know he's a freshman but what makes you think he's a sure thing?

Or Dungey.

I have no idea if he's a sure thing. But Hunt can't throw a football well.

What frosh have been thrown into the dumpster fire he was thrown into? Went from third string/running scout team to starting. A new OC took over trying to run a truncated version of the previous flaming bag of poo offense that he doesn't want to run. Injuries all over the field including decimating the offensive line. His best weapon at WR was another true frosh. The HC and OC trotting out five RBs. And we played an absurdly tough schedule.

What other freshman had to deal with that?

None.

AJ might end up sucking, but he has some mobility, can run the option, can throw a back shoulder pass and keeps the ball high especially when he is moving.

He's small. So we can move the pocket. He can't chuck it 70 yards, but neither can Hunt.

We aren't getting an influx of millions of dollars from a T Boone-type so we have to invest in long term development and hope all parties grow and improve. With Hunt, we know what we have: you are getting around 60% completion and a 1:1 TD to INT ratio. With our schedule next year, that won't cut it. Maybe AJ won't either, but I'd rather at least have a glimmer of hope than none at all.

I hear you but thats a gamble. Hunt adds about 80 more rush yards a game, plus he opens up our run game because teams have to account for him. AJ is not a run threat and he is not a strong arm accurate passer. If he was so accurate he would have been throwing the ball on target to our mediocre WR's even if they dropped them.

There is something I like about AJ. His Moxy and leadership.perhaps. He is small and light. I think he is the best of the young QB's we have on campus now. I am afraid that none of these guys is good enough to lift our program in the tough ACC.

As bad as he was he was still significantly better then anything else we have seen.

Unfortunately you are spot on. I am a huge Hunt detractor, but after seeing the rest of our qb's he's the best we've got. Who knew we had it so good when Nunes was running the point?

Similar BC team, last season, Hunt runs for 90 yards, passes for 270 yards, and we put up 34 points. What was different? Home game, Macky at center, Smith at RB (accounted for 45 yards), and Hunt at QB instead of Long. Should tell you something.

He should've played all along

Broyld makes Kimble look like Johnny Unitas.

Couldn't grasp the offense and vey inaccurate passer.

Agreed. Ishmael is very good and um, that's about it

West was very good this year. he caught basically anything and everything thrown near him, including a bunch of 50-50 balls down the field. We will miss him next year

People are forgetting that Hunt did have some good throws this year, and in general, we moved the ball down the field pretty consistently in spite of the many penalties we were accruing earlier in the year. The one pass Hunt greatly struggled with was the screen pass all the way to the sideline, which Lester hasn't been calling much since he became OC. The mini screen passes were much more successful with all our QB's.

Ish had a good year and is easily the one with the most potential going forward. But West was our best receiver this year.
