When he secures the ball he needs to see up the field and see his teammates as well as the approaching cover team.After getting his players in sight he must evaluate their potential effect on the coverage and look for the seams to develop . Thats when the speed comes in. He must attack that seam and get in there to clear the coverage . Once he has a step ,he should be able to go all the way or at least most of the way to a score leaving a short distance at worse for he offense to score. Punt returns are different only by requiring to get past the first wave of coverage and then finding his blockers,which for the last decade or so have not been available to them.
