A look at Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome wish list and Pete Sala’s big dream

Anyone concerned we may lose some home field advantage (sound wise) with this? The roof will be, higher, creating more space for noise to travel and therefore making the dome slightly quieter. Also, no idea if it would, but the hot air may affect sound. As well as the current dome material. I have seen articles in the past that states the material reverberates sound very well. No idea how this new material will work. I guess I’m worried we may lose some home field advantage with these upgrades. Anyone have thoughts?

I’m not. I think that creating a better experience all around will, eventually (like post phase 2 and hopefully 3) create a setting more people want to be in. Attendance will hopefully be more consistently up and Music and lights will help pump people up. I suspect knowing the reputation of the Loud House they would ensure that the new roof would at least be comparable

Plus worst case they can go Indy Colts and pump sound in

I’m about 98% sure that it will NOT be on a moveable track and will be center hung. Was wondering how they would manage this, now the picture is becoming clearer
Center hung. You mean center of the basketball court. Right?

i thought they said the scoreboard would be moveable. Thats disappointing, if not

Going to be interesting when they try to break the basketball attendance record. I don't think the scoreboard will impede on any views but I am sure they will be showing a live feed of the game on it so they can pack in a few hundred or thousand more people

I was concerned that that was the case.

Functional, obviously, but really unsightly.
The stadium where this year's track and field world championships in Doho, Qatar was held at is simliar except it has an opening in the middle. It didn't look bad. I think the Dome will take some getting used to because we're so used to how it has looked for so long. EDIT: It may not help that our roof is going on top of an old looking exterior whereas their outside walls kind of flow with the roof.

They did some cool light shows to introduce the athletes in the feature races at the end of each day when the sun had gone down. It was a cool preview for what we will have the opportunity to do.

They determined the logistics of it moving would be near impossible however, it’s going to be big enough they claim that you won’t have to worry about it moving

But isnt it going be hanging effectively behind the movable seats? in which case its very far away for everyone, and very hard for most of the people in that movable section to look at? Or worse, directly over those seats which would make it 100% unusable for that group?

If it cant move they really need to significantly just need to upgrade the existing scoreboards that are used for basketball and take the big one out of the equation. Its going to be janky trying to use it out of position, IMO.

i believe, from what I have heard, the scoreboard is also going to have an inner scoreboard. Not really sure the full plans but I do know that it is almost no chance that it will move

85% of the hoop fans will see it. The moveable seat fans can look at the one they already do

we should really be worried the people with the best seats cant see the new board as well.. mght be nice that the people sitting on the far corners can actually watch the game now..

I think the only place a new façade was brought up was on this forum by posters.
Yah I wonder who would be foolish enough to mention how nice brick would look on the lower portion of the exterior Dome walls.

I think it won't be a big deal as some might think. Yes it'll be a bit of a bummer for those in the pull-outs, but once the novelty of the board wears off after the first season, life will go on for those STHs. Someone also mentioned the cost savings of keeping the board static would be used to upgrade the video boards that the pullouts would be able to see.

On a dreamer's note, it would be nice if the new board was wide enough to completely block out the other side of the dome. An LED blue curtain. Doubt it will come close to that size in reality. I know Pete's saying it will be huge but usually when people resort to those types of adjectives it's an attempt to compensate for something.

I think your EDIT remark truly can not be understated here in my opinion. If you look at the pic of the Vancouver building Tomcat recently posted in the Campus Framework thread, you can see where implmentation of considerable glass work around the exterior truly compliments the total structure, incorporating the similar chosen design/roof style with existing. As a result, the Vancouver project doesn't look so much as an 'add-on' (after-effect) as the Dome's appears, at least from its rendering.

Hopefully they'll eventually be able to do something to make the exterior look better. Ultimately, it'll be more important for it to look good from the inside. That's what'll be seen the most on tv, especially if we put together some cool entrance light shows.

The way this works I guess is it they effectively use the court facing side of the center scoreboard as a mirror to the information on the video scoreboard on the other side of the court. For basketball purposes Its better to view this not as a multisided asset but basically a flat asset like a typical courtside scoreboard/video board.

it also means people sitting on the sides can kinda see both at the same time much easier than looking down to one end and back to the floor
