That has been a thing for a while. I think they even mentioned it during the national championship broadcast about how we could officially lay that term to rest. I agree, they are pretty consistently kick ass the past few years.
The Wolfpack were looking like they deserved this treatment as well until this season. Jury is out on that one.
Not sure of other candidates for the honor of being recognized for their wild inconsistency

It is laughable that the national championship put this term to rest. Like that is something that teams can easily achieve. This was a Tommy Bowden term. How this still gets brought up is a mystery to me.
No one deserves this term because everyone (minus Bama) loses to teams they aren't supposed to every single year. This term is one of the stupidest things in college football.

I swear I will be on to Miami soon. Yet I want to say that upset wasn’t through Clemson being flat. We took it to them on our first drive and they came back and scored on the next series. At no point did it seem to me that Clemson was not up for the game. Syracuse didn’t rely on turnovers or gadget plays for the victory. It was a thorough win. I know their QB was hurt but to my knowledge they weren’t missing any key contributors on the defensive side. Clemsoning to me is over confidence brought on by poor play and an upset. We just beat them to say it any other way is a discredit to Syracuse and our effort!
