WR Coach Ross Douglas to Oregon

This is a great sign and part of the Fran plan.
Nixon was the one I was worried about the most, although Douglas sure seemed to do a great job as well.
I am sure he has a few coaches in mind for every position.

I noticed that the candidates rarely were in one place more than a couple of years. Is that common for a WR coach?

Coach Douglas called the parents of the current WRs to let them know the news. I am not sure if that is normal or not. Don't worry about him taking any current players to Oregon and maybe not the 2026 recruits. We are still a tiny step below what Oregon has. They are well stocked there.

Either way it’s a classy move

Agree on the most part but still he knows the 26/27 east coast kids pretty well and that might be a door Oregon would like to open a bit more. I'm happy for him but he will be a very formable opponent recruiting wise.

I would include Tiquan Underwood and Damiere Shaw on that list. Tiquan has worked with Coach Brown at Rutgers and I believe Damiere has worked with Coach Nixon at Baylor and with the Panthers. I think Coach Nixon is a mentor here.
Shaw would be a good option as well but I believe Rutgers just extended him (presumably with a decent buyout) when Penn state came sniffing around looking for a rb coach in last 2 weeks.

Oregon is currently one of the top programs and now have a blank check from Phil Knight. They will not be coming to take any of our WRs.

They did. No doubt he will be expensive. That said, I think we paid Coach Douglas pretty well to get him to leave the Pats.

If Shaw wants to get to the NFL, it would be better for him to work in the Syracuse offense than the Rutgers offense. SU and RU are on opposite sides of the bell curve in terms of offensive sophistication and success. I think even the biggest RU fan would acknowledge their offense has been crappy for a long time.

And as mentioned, I think Coach Nixon has been a mentor to him. Pretty sure they have a strong relationship.

Underwood would likely come cheaper. He is a lot of experience coaching WRs and recruiting the NE for several schools. He is another guy who recently took a job with the Cowboys but I think the WR job at SU rates higher than an assistant WR coach for an NFL team. And he and Fran have worked together before...

I don't think he burns a bridge with Fran over a couple of recruits

You work at company X and they pay you let's say $200k a year. You are very good at your job and your in a top 25 company say in your vertical. Now a top 10 company comes to you and tells you to come and do the same job for them and they will pay you $600k per year. It's not a position change but the money is much more and it comes with other benefits. Would you consider taking the position?
It is not all about $$$. I just turned down a job as a senior QA manager for more money. I had previously toured the company's facility they wanted me for and I was not impressed, and through others in the business know that the culture was not one I wanted to be associated with. I also turned down a job to go back into production as a senior production manager because of untrustworthy leadership. Sometimes it is knowing what is best long term, not just $$$

He still woulda helped somehow ya know.
Was there evidence of it though? Maybe there was stuff going on behind the scenes, but all I saw was a guy bringing some celebrities to courtside seats. I didn't see a guy wanting to ensure his school had every chance to succeed.

Yep and agree that is also an option as well. The poster I was responding to though was saying he didn't understand why Ross took the same job and things like more money, program reputation and other perks and benefits will often be compelling reasons to make that type of move.

In part because it isn’t his school. He went to LIU and then the NY State penal school for an 8 month graduate degree in check fraud. I have read a lot about deals being offered, but very few made. Good for him for putting a portion of his wealth to preserving, celebrating, and building bits of CNY but as far as Syracuse is concerned, his only affiliation is a relationship with JAB. I am not sure why people don’t want to understand that in this relationship, he seems to take more than give, and leadership at SU felt their own integrity and NIL was worth more than the $1million he was offering.

We know that the reason fair was here for her senior year was the NIL for her was paid by him. She stated as much. And that was over 200,000 dollars. That was after the Chancellor told him to go.
The Chancellor has been wishy washy quite often. He set up the JB, Hopkins succession plan then backed out, which gave us the program falling apart.
Then he apparently was behind this letting JB go after he JB said he would decide when to leave.
It's time for the Chancellor to be gone.

Is there a rule that every thread of 4+ pages has a Weistman back-and-forth that I’m unaware of?

Only losing one coach voluntarily at top-25 program (which we were last year) seems above standard if you look around the country. If we continue to be successful, people should get used to losing people. Ohio State won the title and lost both their coordinators, one to a lateral job. It happens everywhere.

I think the Board of Directors has other criteria for deciding if the chancellor is doing a good job or not.

Fran did take Meeks but I'm sure Georgia didn't care, Jackson was a bench and special teamer only. Fran knew the kid had talent but wasn't getting a chance with the Dawgs. 70 catches and 1,000 yards later, Jackson's gonna get a NFL shot.
This should be a huge plus for us in the portal~ potty~.
Dude probably had a 1% chance to get any legit opportunity to make an NFL team. Transfers to SU and could possibly get drafted. At least put a helluva tape together that will be seen.
Future is much brighter after transfering to SU.
