So Kingz hasn't exactly been ripping the nets from deep in our first 3 games, which is a little surprising considering he shot 45% from deep last season.

I decided to check the game logs from last season to see if he ever had a 3 game stretch as bad or worse than the 2-12 he's had for us.

He had one stretch that was worse. Toward the end of the season he had a 3 game stretch at 10%, shooting 1 for 10. He rebounded to go 4 for 8 from three in their last game of the season.

All shooters slump, so there is some reason for optimism that he just happened to start off poorly here. I'd like to see us work a little more to get him clean looks. We have a well rounded offense with a lot of threats on the floor at all times, so getting him good shots shouldn't be impossible.

For some reason, I'm finding myself rooting for Kingz even more than the others, and I really love this roster, from A to Z. When he starts lighting it up and we get JJ back...look out! Hopefully that will be on Monday next week!
Yeah, it's not a good thing that Kingz is shooting poorly and that JJ is hurt, but that does mean the team has even more upside than its shown so far.

I think Kingz just needs to take a split second longer to set himself before shooting. He tends to rotate his body a bit when shooting, especially when coming off a screen. It’s just a small tweak, but I think it will make a large difference.

Kiyan is helping, I am more concern3d that JJ first game may be Houston. We can't afford a "star" to be shaking off the rust against Houston, Kansas, and Tennessee. I hope he can play v. Monmouth.

My take is that it’s taking him some time to get adjusted and comfortable to playing with all new guys in a new system. I think he’ll start getting hot from 3 soon enough. I love all the little things he does, and he’s a good slasher as well. He’s a well rounded player.

Anyone notice that when these guys miss a shot though they go harder on defense to make up for it.

I swear I've watched Kingz miss open looks and then go down the other way and make a play on defense and run the break the other way multiple times.

Last year we would miss shots and just not play defense after.

We all watched 3 seasons of Chris Bell sulking after a missed shot, not trying for any rebounds and not remotely playing defense. This is a very welcome change.

Kingz is a good 3 point shooter. Appears that teams are taking away his shot and what is nice he is able to drive and hit a midrange or get to the rim. Love that. Cannot be underestimated if he can couple that with a drive and lob to our undersized center. LOL.

Another great example from yesterday, Freeman had that awesome block from behind after turning the ball over. Absolutely love that effort.

Yeah, you're getting at a question I have, which is how does the quality of shots he's getting with us compare to the quality of shots he got with Oregon State?

I don't have an answer to that, other than I think when shooters slump you want to make things easier for them, so against Monmouth I'd really like to see us try to get him really good looks and bust out of the slump. Some of that's a function of the offense, and some of that is Kingz helping himself by being ready and staying disciplined on form.

Watching the tape I see different threes here compared to last year. Jake mentioned this in another thread but Kings isn’t a creator he needs the ball in the flow of the offense. Work the ball to Freeman kick it out and swing it around for spot up open three. On the break find him for a trailing 3 or on the wing for a three. Right now I think he is dribbling too much before his three point shot. If he does have to dribble I would rather not see him take to a pull up three but get to the basket which he seems to do well.

He has tape at the P4 level so I am not going to critique his form or anything like that because it clearly works for him as he has proved it before. I think his issue is just how and where he his getting his 3 point shots.

Good insights.

Yeah the reason I’m okay with the slump is because he plays hard defense and tries to get to basket. We had shooters last year who if they missed, that was it. Gave up. Kingz gets it

Yup. 144% this.

Kingz is easy to root for, because he gives good effort on D and boarding, and isn’t just an outside sniper.

He’s got a solid driving game, and can finish with either hand at the rim.
And - he’s not a black hole, will find open teammates.

Lots to like.
His 3’s will start falling at some point.
He’s too good a shooter not to.

Last year bell would shoot and watch and once every four games sprint back and reject a shot from behind
