Maybe someone with more inside knowledge can tell me is academics still a factor in this NIL, 4 schools in 4 years environment? Are players still expected to show academic progress? Are there any required standards? Do they even need to actually take classes, or is it just UNC-style (you know, spell your name right get an A, misspelling it get a B, put an X on a sheet of paper get a C)?

I really have trouble believing all these transfers are successfully bringing academic records from school to school with no issues. Or that Baylor can enroll a NBA draft pick who hasn’t been in a school for several years with no questions asked.

Depends, I guess? Lots of non-athlete students transfer all the time. There are enough gen ed majors that most classes are portable. I’m sure there are still requirements but schools have always had ways to mitigate the effort.

As for the Baylor signee, I was a non-traditional student after the military. I could have gone directly into a 4-year program, but my math in particular was way below what i needed for a 100 level calc class. I could either take a remedial class that doesn’t count toward credits for graduation at a four year and pay a higher rate or take some classes at a community college. If I was an athlete it wouldn’t matter where I took the remedial class because they’re not paying for it.
