I've recently seen a lot of discussion about this years team. Typically the team is compared to previous Syracuse teams and the overall consensus seems to be that although this team has quite a bit of talent, it is a notch or two below the recent squads that we've had here.
Certainly what we have seen so far in Maui has helped to bring this team into sharper focus with respect to it's strengths and weaknesses. One thing that I think has been largely overlooked is the fact that although this team may not be as long up top and defensively last years team ended up playing a zone that was from another planet, this team has the personnel which could potentially show more improvement over the course of the season than perhaps any team we've ever had.
Albeit we've had a small sample size, there can still be no denying that we've seen Ennis improving right before our eyes. The same holds true for Cooney, Grant, Coleman, Rak... well you get the idea.
I am really excited to watch this team as we move through the season. Each player has so much upside that is just waiting to bust out and it's going to be fantastic to watch it happen. Grant was absolutely spectacular yesterday and Ennis played with a polish and composure which is well beyond his years.
So, with that in mind, I anxiously await tonight's game and wonder who among our young team is going to take another major developmental step while we finish up our business in Hawaii of wrapping up the Maui title and return to central NY undefeated and ready to keep kickin a$$ and takin names!
God it's easy to love this team!
