I can't believe I'm about to say this, but on paper, this is an 11 win football team if things shake out right. Very realistic shot at another 8-10 win season.
Getting 8-10 W’s 2 years in a row would be huge.

I have to think that we’ll see HUGE dividends on the recruiting trail next year, as long as we don’t tremendously regress.

We’d have a stable coaching situation, and all of the rising seniors know we’re a team that wins with an exciting brand of football. They’re looking at us, and we’ll get early interest.

Maryland on the road is not a guaranteed win.
No.

But we're going up against a head coach with a win percentage under .100.

There are reasons why he's won so little.

He has a point. We could forget that there’s a game and forfeit.

Of course, other teams are saying, “Look at Syracuse, Losing a top QB, both OL Tackles, starting RB, top WR, Top DL, both starting linebackers, starting TE.” Every team has challenges. I trust HCDM to keep SU going. But it’s not like SU doesn’t have holes to fill.
Trajectory and talent level.

I will grant you Eric Dungey, though. It was a privilege to see him in my time on this earth.

It will be fun seeing who will be lining up where in the Spring game. I think our skill players are good to go. I think oline and dline have some work except at def end. It will be interesting to see how our linebackers shake out as well. Would like to see Chance get game reps as well. Next year should be fun.

Welcome to belief with evidence. This is Syracuse Football. I'm kinda freakin' out, too. It's good to be Orange.

Agreed, not quite sure what to make of all this optimism.
- Coach signs a contract extension,
- Things are looking great on the bowl front
- 4* players being activated
- Favorable schedule for next season
- Signing day excitement
- A solid QB in waiting to take the helm from ED
- Dome renovations
- Expect some media 'darling' attention next preseason as expectations are set much higher than a last place conference finish.

It will be interesting battles between NC State and SU going forward.

SU's success against Louisville and NC State is key to our future success overall.
I suppose we should add in the cross-over games against BC and Pitt, too.
These are our toss up games, annually. If we can start to own these challengers, we will be in great shape going forward.

Louisville, Florida State and NC State will be the difference between a good season and a great season. Just like this season. Satterfield is a very good coach and will have the Cardinals decent in 2 or 3 seasons. We need to take advantage now.
yeah it will be interesting to see if FSU will rebound in year 2 or if it will take another year. Given their recruiting strength, I would say that they will be back to being an ACC force sooner rather than later.

Florida St could be headed into Miami territory, lose a good coach, make a bad hire. It could be years before they get back to where they were. If Dino gets us where we hope to be, they may never make it back.

Well, we can hope, but the guy they hired did a pretty good job at his last stop. I think it may take until year 3 to return to prominence, but they are going to be + .500 next year, and great again the year after. They just have so much talent, they are in a recruiting hotbed, and their brand has not deteriorated yet.

Can we please start the run on Pitt next year? Please...

The last 17 games have been Pitt 14 - Cuse 3

Pittsburgh–Syracuse football rivalry - Wikipedia
I feel your pain. In 2 of the 3 losses (Pitt/Clemson) we folded against power running teams, and next year we lose 2 starting LB's. One of them (Guthrie) elevated his run defense impressively the last 2-3 games, so there will be a transition as we break in the new talent.

The good news is ... the position might actually get an upgrade if Shy and Richards take over. Both have good size and are physically gifted. Shy got lots of snaps the last half of the season. There's also depth with Armstrong, Wallace, Fagan and Williams.

Well, they're guaranteed at least 1 loss next year and gbo would insist it will be at least 2. ;)

The rumors are Willie is going to hire Kendal Briles as his new OC (Walt Bell left FSU to become the HC at UMass). It will be hard to do given how closely Kendal was involved with the Baylor scandal and some of the quotes attributed to him, but FSU looks like they are willing to do whatever it takes to get back to winning ways.

I bet Willie has noted what Syracuse has done the last 2 years playing Clemson and wants in on the Baylor offense magic.

If FSU goes with Briles, the Seminoles should expect a couple of years of struggle on offense before the offense gets rolling. Maybe longer given how awful their offensive line is rightr now.

I don't see FSU being great again in 2020, especially if they hire Briles. But there is no doubt they have great skill players on both sides of the ball. Maybe that will be enough to get back into the top 25 that quickly. If they do it, the defense is going to have to be exceptional.

Why? Are they closing? What have you heard?
As of today, there is still no change to the rule covering championship games which requires the ACC to have divisions in order to have a CG. It is believed that the B1G may be more amenable to changing the rule, since no B1G team made the playoff because thatOSU played a rather blah Northwestern in the championship rather than Meeshigan again. The B1G and the SEC were the primary ringleaders in voting down the ACC's proposal to eliminate the requirement for division and still have a CG.

Good post Tom and they’ll need a QB. I don’t see one on the roster right now.

Haha. I was referring to Dinosaur BBQ. I forgot to use the sarcasm font.

Taggert kicked our ass with USF talent, what do you think he is going to do with a top 10 ranked recruiting class with Florida speed?

We were in year Dino year 1, rolling out new systems. While he was in year 3.

Then we played them in year 1 of Taggert, while we were in year 3.

Eventually their talent should make them really hard to beat - but we have a healthy head start. And I like our coach better.

I agree, I like our coach better.

I don't think we will ever be able to match their talent level but I know with this staff's recruits, S&C team and Dino's system, we can win a good portion of the games against them.

I expect the game next fall to be a toss-up at Tally. We need to beat those guys there. It was so close in 2017. Imagine if #2 had two good feet the whole game.

The road schedule has lots of winnable games next year.
