With all the recruiting excitement, I started thinking about Spring and Summer for 2019. After all, we have a little time before our bowl game.
We have a young secondary with significant contributors in place and more on the way.
We have a deep, and by most accounts very talented receiving corps, but a lot of it unproven.
The level of competition at practice between these young men can only help to foster both groups' growth. On paper we think we know who should stand out, but as the saying goes, the hardest steel is forged in the hottest fires. I think the practices will be very intense but both sides will be better for it, and of course the team benefits all the way around.
What good is it for Devito or Amie to throw to good receivers against poor coverage? Or, have their confidence shaken because the receivers can't get open against superior coverage?
The D-line will have to get more pressure to not allow the receivers time to get open. The O-line has to stop them from doing just that. A half second could make all the difference. Everything gets ratcheted up a notch as far as level of play, and we have increased preparedness in playing against elite competition. This is what the Alabamas and Clemsons of the world have that we don't. They seldom play against better competition than they see in practice. We haven't had that luxury in a long time. But here we are...on the precipice of something we haven't seen in a generation.
Enjoying the moment, but giddy for what is still to come!
