I think at some point enough of the power is going to swing far enough North by adding more members, that it's just not going to fly to have those teams traveling all the way down South more often than they have to.
Unfortunately, one of the side effects of losing Maryland is losing one more team in that Northern "pod" that now becomes Syracuse, Pitt, BC. Adding UConn wouldn't make much difference, but if you could make one of the big dominoes fall (ND or PSU), that would swing some serious power. The other side effect is that it would stabilize the ACC to the point that it would be hard for a school like Va Tech to threaten to leave to avoid being put in that division.
Maybe it ends up being four pods of four, though, instead.
