AJ Long medically disqualified due to multiple concussions..transferring

On this one you are on the wrong trail Rocco.

Please elaborate because I must be missing something. Feel free to PM me if you don't want it here. :)

He posted this like 10 hours ago on Instagram. I saw it at the time and the "here" gave it away. Was a weird post but didnt seem to me at all like he was leaving.

Yeah, maybe odd timing for a thank you, but when I read it I saw nothing that said he was leaving.

That would imply that an injury will force him to sit out the rest of this year AND next year, right?
I was implying that thing where they go to school for free but can't play because of a medical condition. Think that's the same thing.

As much as I'm intrigued by Mahoney's potential, I think AJ is probably #2 going into next season. Rex is a big ? and could very well be #2 or even #1 next season, or a redshirt.

I am responding to this regardless of what AJ's IG post meant.

Not for anything, and with all due respect to AJ, but IMO the writing is on the wall. At this point if Dungey continues to improve, coupled with Mahoney now as the backup, I just don't see a very bright future for AJ at Syracuse. Add in Rex Culpepper and Lindsey Scott for next year and it seems like Lester is moving forward without him in the plans. Lester wants his own kids at QB, not someone else's.

I could be completely wrong, but that is what I am seeing. I wish that kid the best in whatever happens because he has been an incredibly loyal Cuse advocate. Injuries have undoubtedly derailed his development between the shoulder last year and now the hand this year. That's a shame, but Shafer and Lester have to act in the best interests of the program.

No

I think it is the most likely reason for the post...maybe the nerve damage is more extensive than originally thought...we will know soon enough.

Hopefully, we're going to be in a position where redshirts for both Culpepper and Scott are no-brainers. For one thing, it would space them out an extra year eligibility-wise from Dungey, who barring injury should be a four year starter. I'd hope that with Dungey / Long / Mahoney [and who knows, maybe Hunt as a 6th year guy] that we wouldn't have to burn a redshirt for either incoming QB.

Agree to a point Rocco. Writing on the wall as far as being the starting QB, correct. What AJ needs to realize though is that he's an athlete. He has good speed as demonstrated when he out ran the LBer in the WF game last year. He needs to suck up his pride and admit that the starting QB job is probably not in his future. Joe Haden was a top notch QB out of Virginia that went to Florida. Urban converted him to CB and now he's a premier CB in the NFL. AJ needs to realize that things change and if he's willing to change, so can his future change, maybe beyond what he originally dreamt of.

AJ has been great for this team. Filled in when hunt when down. Even though he wasn't ready. Has fought hard to overcome many things. Has helped out on the recruitment of new players. Most notably Moe Neal. We would be lucky if he decides to stay here for a long time in some capacity.

Kind of shocks me that people want him gone and the writing is on the wall comments. Amazing how everyone forgets how this kid was trying to build up his recruiting class. He got thrown to the wolves his freshman year played pretty well against fsu but all of a sudden lets dump him cause he tossed some interceptions. We need athletes and Aj is an athlete. Let him push dungy next year. If he can't beat him then he can be a backup or he can be moved to another position. The kid as earned that scholarship and bleeds orange.

Slow down on the Mahoney bandwagon. He threw some nice long balls, but he also threw many ground balls.

A little different, but what you are saying is more likely. Hadn't thought of it that way.

Who wants him gone? I think the "writing on the wall" comments are simply about Dungey looking really good so far, and seeming like a very good bet to be a 4 year starter.

I'm sure everyone wants Long to stay. Cuse fans know better than anyone(after the last few years especially) how important it is to have multiple QB's that can play, and everyone loves and respects how Long seems to bleed Orange.
