Justin Fields went from GA to OSU and got a waiver. he lives about an hour 20 min from UGA.
True but you left out a major detail, he played the race card in his waiver reason (not questioning the validity of his claims, just that its a topic the NCAA didn't want to touch or deny)

He very likely could get a waiver considering the pandemic and him being from the ny. The ncaa is going to get crucified if they vote no on this. But then again they might be
Too heartless to care.

It looks like their excuse is that they simply don't have the resources to have proper oversight and they don't want some quick and dirty policy to open up loopholes. Logically, sure that makes sense but given the fact they are not exactly coming into this with a lot of fans, it is not a smart move. You can add some strong language that this is a one time blanket waiver and set parameters around it without needing a whole bunch of time and people to make that happen. Sounds just as I said initially, an excuse.

I tried telling people on here that assumed it was a slam dunk that the rule was changing and I kept saying you can't count on the NCAA, they are too unpredictable. The remaining 2 scholarships if used must be on someone who 100% will be eligible, either HS, JUCO, or Grad Transfer.
I think COVID-19 actually hurt the chances of the immediate transfer rule becoming effective immediately. I think there is genuine concern some schools will get hit hard by the virus and lose all or almost all of their players to other schools.

This is a big rule change coaches and athletic departments have been reluctant to embrace even under normal circumstances. The extraordinary circumstances of today may have made some people on the fence decide it would be best to hold off a year and do it when things were a little more ‘normal’.

Heck, for all I know, this might just be a ploy to delay the adoption of the rule for as long possible, to give prospective transfers as little time as possible to react and leave.

Regardless of whether the rule is implemented immediately or not, I continue to think the NCAA will be very accommodating regarding waiver requests where players want to transfer closer to their homes and families/safer locations. The NCAA is really hated, delaying the immediate transfer rule will be another PR disaster for them, and they are skating on thin ice with the P5 conferences already.

How can they justify turning down these requests and possibly seeing athletes they refused to let move get really sick or even die?

Saw a few vids on Instagram with him and his brother. Alan is listed 6’5” 195 (as of October 2019) and his brother is listed as 6’6’ 210 as of January; they looked very similar in the video; AJ might be a tad thicker but not much. Griffin will come to the campus the same size Eli was last year

Q: Where do we stand with the current transfer rule? With Alan Griffin, could he still just get a waiver for the year?

Mike: Last week, the NCAA’s Board of Directors surprised many observers by recommending not to approve an upcoming legislation that would give athletes the right to transfer and play immediately.

The actual vote is scheduled for May 20.

Even if the proposal is voted down, athletes who have transferred, including Alan Griffin who transferred from Illinois to Syracuse, can still apply for a waiver and seek permission to play right away.

I would think that Griffin would have a good case for his appeal. He is originally from Ossining, N.Y., and played at Archbishop Stepinac High School.

Griffin can argue that with the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the country that he wanted to attend a school closer to home. In case of an emergency, Griffin can get home more easily and quicker from Syracuse than he could from Illinois.

Will the NCAA grant him the waiver? Who knows? It’s impossible to figure out the NCAA’s logic in some of its waiver cases.

Anyone know if this vote is actually going to happen today? Twitter is dead on info

Honestly, I kind of hope he isn’t eligible right away. Just for the chance of him still being here for the ‘22-‘23 season. He is already 20 though, so he’d be 23 by the end of that season.

I don’t think he’ll stick around for that long regardless. I think he’s going to be reaaallly good and all-conference 5th year seniors seem to be pretty rare these days. See; Elijah Hughes.

I would love to be wrong if he’s not eligible though because we could be pre-season number 1 good if he’s here 22-23

Yeah, you’re most likely right. I doubt he sticks around college that long unless winning a championship is something he really wants to do.

And hey, we may just do that in Buddy’s senior year for JB’s farewell anyway. Dior’s season would just be us gunning for a repeat. Who knows, maybe we pull a Florida, and AG comes back with JG for another run at it. Hell, throw in QG too, and now we’re talking.

Coaches still believe he will get the waiver...checks all the boxes to get one during the pandemic. Closer to home is a huge factor that is checked.

Also, we don't want him to sit out. We have a better chance of him staying for 2 if he plays this year vs him starting to play in 2021

Plus we realllllllllly need him this year
