Has the NCAA formally voted to allow a one year exemption on transfer eligibility or are they set to vote on it in the future? Reading this chain it appears that the board is saying it is a done deal. If Griffen gets the waiver it will be great for him and SU but there are a lot of teams who will also be automatically better, including some of our ACC opponents.

It’s happening in May and by looking at everyone else’s roster in the ACC, nobody is counting on a traditional transfer to build their roster next year.

Welcome aboard Alan! On a side note: this may open the flood gates.
Yeah, as much as I’d like Alan to be able to play next season, I don’t want them to get rid of the one year sit out rule permanently. Fine for it to be in place for one season because of the pandemic. Not a fan of a permanent rule change.

We need him next year badly. I can see this being a one time thing.

It's a slap in the face to Hughes who was our best all around player since silent G.
Agreed that Hughes was our best player. But you’re also making an assumption that the other players we have coming back won’t improve (Elijah certainly improved from his junior to senior year). We actually have a pretty high percentage of starters returning compared to other teams in the ACC and nationally. We’re only losing one player from last year’s team plus adding Griffin and Kadary.

I think QG is going to take a big leap. Already can finish at the hoop and rebound. His mid-range jumper will improve. Once he rounds out his shooting he can be a first-round talent.

No it isn't. It is taking in to consideration that the guys that played last year will improve. I have no problem with that. It has nothing to do with Hughes. Teams lose their best players all the time and get better. Sometimes teams bring back everyone except one guy who didn't appear to be that important and are worse.

I think quincy and Joe will make leaps. The problem is the guy that we need to make the biggest leap is going to be a senior and that's sidibe. Is he going to pull a rak and shock us all or is it a he is what he is deal?

Happy to have Alan in the fold for Cuse. His younger brother, Adrian (5 star '21 Duke commit), looks good with the block S too. Just saying...

Hmmm...I think somewhere in between. Rak made a huge jump and was one of the best big guys in the country his senior year. But he also came in as a McDonalds AA - and while his stats weren’t huge he was a key role player on a final four team and a team that was 25-0 his junior/senior year. To put it simply - he was a much bigger talent all along than Sidibe is.

So I don’t see Sidibe suddenly being THAT good...but his end of the year play was encouraging and if he can bring that to the table his senior year? He’ll be one of the better big guys in the ACC and I think we’ll be solid.

We don’t need CDB to be THAT good.
It would be AMAZING! God Bless America!
;)

I doubt he’s going to miracle up a refined post game, moves and counters, jump hooks w either hand, and a midrange face up game like Sr Rak did.

We ‘just’ need him to be the guy he was those last 6 or so games
Don’t foul stupidly, play smart D, rebound, and be opportunistic for lobs and put backs.

25 mins a game of THAT guy will be HUGE for our team success this year.

"Steinbrecher also said that the NCAA is well aware that this decision will result in an influx of waivers that will need to be handled. The first will be related to the coronavirus and players utilizing the current climate to become eligible, and another is players being informed by coaches that the one-time transfer waiver was going to go through, and deciding to enter the transfer portal with that in mind."

I mean, c'mon. That quote says it all. Even before the rona hit everyone was under the impression that the waiver was going to go through, that's on the coaches and administrators not the players.

There has literally never been a better time than right now to let players transfer without sitting out, especially when the NCAA is going to look terrible denying some of these waivers. One way or another, I'll be shocked if Griffin isn't eligible this season.
