allegedly

there's a game at MSG later on today for the NIT championship.
I need verification from an independent source.

I am trying to figure out if the listing on the game in TV Guides is sufficient independent authentication.

As for your word AC, I have my doubts. You are known to be a Cuse fan who would have much to gain if the alleged game were to actually be played & won by the Cuse.

From the Free Dictionary.com:

Usage: In recent years it has become common for speakers to include allegedly in statements that are controversial or possibly even defamatory. The implication is that, by saying allegedly, the speaker is distancing himself or herself from the controversy and even protecting himself or herself from possible prosecution. However, the effect created may be deliberate. The use of allegedly can be a signal that, although the statement may seem outrageous, it is in fact true: He was drunk at work. Allegedly. Conversely, it is also possible to use allegedly as an expression of ironic scepticism: He's a hard worker. Allegedly.

Urban Dictionary agrees:

1) a word tacked on to the beginning, middle, or end of a group of words that emphasizes that fact that what you are saying may not be true.
2) a word used to get your point across about someone or something without sounding biggoted, bias, or harsh.
3) a way to spread gossip around while verbally citing that you heard it from a source that may not be a reliably truthful source.

*use the word allegedly. it's much safer and makes you look less suspicious.

1) Today they're selling ice cream at lunch time. Allegedly.

2) Bob's toasters never seem to work. Allegedly.

3) Susie stole bubble gum from the store then cheated on Georgie with Johnnie. Allegedly.

...it can not be alleged that the pre NIT final is tonight...it is a fact...no ifs, ands , or butts...the butts can be alleged however if referring to davis and lang

I have it on good authority that no such tape of the game exists...at this point in time. However, there will be one by 7:00pm this evening.

Does Jimmy say this is one of a thousand lies or is he saying game on ???

Can u confirm the rumor asap? Can u name your source? Left cuse @ 1015 and bout to hit gwb. Prefer not to pay toll if there its no game.

There have allegedly been games for many years. However SU, the Post Standard, and ESPN investigated this in 2005 and found that there was no proof that games existed. Odd when you consider that most of them happened to be on ESPN, which makes you wonder what they are hiding.

So now somebody else says that there is a game today and I look on ESPN's website and sure enough...they are all over it. The truth is that they asked two teams to play a game in order to give them their second source so that they could run with the story. They don't even allege that a game will be played; they're acting like it's all true.

The Post Standard has picked up on it too, and they're now running stories about the game.

I'm going to take a wait and see attitude. I don't know if these games exist or not but I guess if we turn on the TV at 5 o'clock and see some players, refs, announcers, and the Onondaga County DA, well then I guess i have to conclude that the game really exists.

My whole attitude towards SU sports will be shaken and will change greatly. After I watch the game at 5 first. And maybe the football game tomorrow too.

Great post. Now I've seen that Penn State played a game too. And it was a big game, a veritable 7-game series compared to this! Is that comparable? I don't think so. We're talking about a systematic, long-time cover-up of any knowledge of a game in PSU's case. This is something different entirely
