Class of 2023  Alyssa Latham (IL) transferring to Tennessee

She’s not taking many shots at Tennessee so I figure she’s way down the chart there for sets run for her to score. I recall her father and maybe Alyssa herself saying she wanted to be more of a perimeter player taking 3’s than an inside the arc player like she was here. She had six 3 point attempts at SU her freshman year and 10 attempts so far her next 2 years at Tennessee. She’s still not a 3 point shooter. It all had to be about the $. Perhaps she’s happy there though, made friends etc putting less priority on development. It will be interesting to see if she stays and finally becomes a player they start and rely upon or chooses a new destination. Sad for us because she certainly would have been a factor here coupled with Uche, Sophie, Dominique, Laila etc unless chemistry would have been effected, She seemed like a nice person though leaving people surprised when she left.
Coaching staff was shocked when she left and said so publicly. I think it opened their eyes to what the new landscape was going to be in college athletics. I am very concerned about the talent leaving Upstate New York and New York in general. Next year, Clemson is getting a top 50 post player right from our back yard. Mississippi State has a Freshman forward right from upstate who is in the top 10 for blocks in the country.
I am not even going to mention all of the talented guards/ wings from Long Island that have signed with other schools. Our HS recruiting has to improve if we want to contend with the elite in our conference.

Alyssa played more minutes her freshman year here at SU vs 2 years at Tennessee. She’s started more games this year (9) but isn’t a focal point of the offense at all. She’s scored in double digits just 4 of the 19 games she’s played in this year. She averages just 3.4 fga this year vs the 7.9 she averaged her freshman year here. Just rather sad seeing that talent being underutilized. Her and her family’s choice.

Alyssa’s career stats:
went for a bag at a place she can't showcase her talents for the WNBA, you make your own choices in life

No. Her parents went for the bag. They took the money to open a day care center. I am serious that she left in tears. Couldn't even say goodbye to the coach. She walked away crying. I felt terrible for her. I had met her at the Thanksgiving dinner I had with the team in Vegas. She was the athlete using the locker I donated. She was very shy but polite. I often wondered if she was emotionally abused by her father,

Well if they took the kid’s money to open a business then I would say, yes, she is being abused and more than that, the parents are misappropriating her money

Well, were also missing recruiting right in our backyard...for example...

For example, Kaety L'Amoreaux from Maine Endwell who is playing for Fairfield. She is in her junior year there and has been playing significant minutes since her freshman year.

Or Cha Gardner from Newark Valley who is at Stephen Austin

Or Maggie Warpus from Chenango Forks who just committed to Oregon St.

We need to really prioritize these local athletes who grow up watching Cuse.

Thats 3 D1 players from 3 years that I could name just off the top of my head quickly from Section 4.

I think those levels are probably appropriate for them.

Fairfield is a very good mid-major team. Syracuse is much better. Look at the results.

L'Amoreaux would not have played the minutes she played her freshman year at SU. She would be a starter now for SU, but not from the start.

Stephen . Austin is 182 in the NET - Gardner is decent, but is she better than the 9th/10th/11th options at SU?

Oregon State is a top 100 team. Pretty good, but not the level that SU is trying to be at.

I know you know this, but there are many levels to D1.

Not familiar with all of the names...except Warpus, to Oregon state. I think she is a nice post player!

the players that I talking about that we missed on...are playing in the SEC and power 4 conferences!

I wasn't addressing anything you mentioned - just the examples JRHEETER provided.

The difference is, lets be honest, we do not have the $$$$ to attract SEC talent.

So if you take some of these girls locally, who are D1 prospects and coach and develop them they come at a hometown discount and help develop a stronger more rounded program.

Obviously you still need to use the portal and use $$$ but turn a couple local stones over and never know what you will find.

As far as Kaety, she is averaging 19ppg and 31.4 mpg. As a true freshman she was averaging 10pts and 26 mins a game.

Kaety is the exact player you want on your bench to develop as she gets older.

My larger point was that there is 3 D1 athletes from Section 4 which has MUCH smaller schools. All of those schools that these students are from are smaller schools. If there is that much talent just in a small little area of Binghamton...what are we missing in other areas of the state.
