I've said it another thread- people have their pitchforks out now but there are still 5 games to be played. Maybe Shafer uses this as a rallying point and we come out guns blazing and win 2-3 more and make all this hand wringing look silly at the end of the season.

We can be concerned but let's let this play out and let the AD do what he was hired to do.

There's no way in hell we beat Clemson. If FSU hadn't lost to Georgia Tech, I would have given us maybe a 10% chance of pulling the upset against FSU (I think they're severely overrated this year, but now we're getting them when they're pissed off, in Tallahassee...so the chance, for me, is down to about 1% at this point).

Louisville will be tough, but it's not impossible.
NC State is the very definition of a paper tiger.
Boston College has a great defense, but an historically bad offense. We should be able to beat them.

I'll be happy if we win one or two more games (NC St. and BC are the only reasonable possibilities). However, since we've already lost both of the "winnable" ACC games on the schedule, it's also plausible that we finish 3-9 with this young team. Ugly for sure. But even if that happens my vote is to stick with SS and hope for a better outcome next year.

Florida State played South Florida at home and beat them by 20. South Florida beat us by 21 at home. I expect FSU to win 35-20 this week.

I wouldn't bet on this game because if FSU is pissed it won't be close if we play tough we could cover though.

The USF game against us was not a 21 point game. That's clearly a game where the margin does not tell the story. Come on. I don't think we're betting FSU, but the final score of the USF game was deceptive.

With all due respect, approximately halfway through the 3rd quarter we were down 24-3, and, up until that time, showed absolutely no signs of life whatsoever on either side of the ball. We finally showed some life afterward and made it somewhat interesting, but the final outcome wasn't really ever in doubt as USF never trailed the entire game.

I'm no Jimmy Chitwood, but that's okay. Merle was always my favorite (which is why it always makes me so sad to remember that the actor who played Merle killed himself in 2003).

By the way: the Chitwood stuff? It's a fact right now, as much as people don't want to believe it. I had one player DM me on Twitter telling me he would absolutely leave if Shafer is fired. I don't think people realize how much these kids love Shafer, and came here for him.

If people knew some of the names who would leave...they'd be terrified for the future of Syracuse football. Obviously I won't say who. But believe me, these are impactful players on this roster.

I haven't read this whole thread so I apologize if I am repeating something...but to build on your comment about players coming here for Shafer...I ran into Dungey outside the dome yesterday and just casually said something along the lines of keep your head up, i can see you guys are well coached and trending in the right direction. You could tell the loss really hurt him but he said thanks and yes, Shafer is the reason why I am here.

I don't know if he would transfer if Shafer was fired but you could tell he really believes in the guy.

Duke invested in Cutcliffe. Duke has way more potential than its results under Roof and other coaches. Duke can be the Stanford of the East coast.

I love Syracuse but a Duke or Stanford degree is worth a lot more. Duke/Stanford can go for those kids looking for a really quality education top 10 school nationally and still play big boy football. Syracuse degree is a valuable degree but its nowhere near as valuable as a top 10 school degree.

I don't believe Shafer has the resume that Cutcliffe had before he got the Duke job and they allowed for patience. I think the Syracuse administration has to invest in football fully and give a total budget of 5-6 million for a new HC and assistant coaching staff and stop being penny pinchers. As we are getting what we have paid for in SS and his staff which are the 2nd lowest paid in the ACC.

I agree with the stop penny pinching and until they stop penny pinching with regard to program support, Shafer should not be in danger of losing his job.

Until the commitment is made by the administration and BOT to strive for the BEST and not strive for mediocrity and hoping for profitability we will get what we pay for in every instance.

You are a good poster. Why do you let the over the top pro-Shafer people get to you? lol. its just a message board man. no one here has any opinions that are move valid than anyone else. They lose people when they decree that every kid is going to transfer or that we are a play or two away from being 6-1.. we are also a play or two from being 1-6. thats football. time to start winning Scott. catchy hashtags on twitter are not going to be enough for Coyle. i hope...
