And in a parallel universe

If you take the Top 6 + ND you have 7 votes...that is pretty much the Mendoza Line anyways.
If it's rigged that only 4 (or 5) conferences have a chance at the MNC then it goes kaboom.

Except 1-3 (or 4) don't necessarily consider 4-6 (or 5-6) "big boys". You think they want the BE to have any say or share in their riches?

Interim step...yes

Just remember University Presidents do not always think like corporate CEOs

What you just described there is exactly why the "big boys" have considered breaking away from the NCAA. They do not want to share money with everyone and allow everyone to have a say in things. It is what first spurned the talk of super conferences and a 4x16 (or some similar model). Who are these 12 presidents besides B12, PAC10, B10, SEC, ACC and maybe BE?
I know the idea of teams breaking away from the NCAA has been batted around in the media for a while, but I don't see state lawmakers allowing that to happen. All these big state schools are not independent entities like sports franchises who can do what they like. For that reason, I just don't ever see a breakaway happening. Congressmen, senators, governers, etc.--they won't want that happening. The NCAA offers at least the perception of integrity and education (whether real or not is a whole other thread). I don't see lawmakers ever allowing the idea "amateur athletics" and "education" being thrown out for a college football playoff.

Just don't see it happening. What politician wants that on their watch?
