He was very good as a sophomore as well. Anyone know where he came in the voting for Groza that year? He was clearly still top 10 and probably top 5. Finalist?

He’s paired up with a special teams coach that sure seemed to coach up the BG kicker last year so this is great news to me.

The last two years were extremely disappointing but he was probably still average for this level overall.

Hey...you fans want to tout Szmyt as a solid dependable placekicker or even better go ahead,Fact is as a freshman his longest field goal was 54 yards. As a junior senior he didn't hit ANYTHING over 48.
His FG % was 88 % as a freshman and 64% as a senior.
And half the time he's kicking in a dome.
If he had his freshman leg/stroke back this spring...GOOD DEAL and he gets a shot at the pros.
But that has been sorely missing...He has lost distance and elevation from 3 years ago.

Also saw Max heading back to Germany and spoke with him for a bit. He seemed in good spirits and definitely will be back. I asked if we have seen the end of the portal craziness and he was non committal.

Why so bitter? He didn’t have the same number of attempts later in his career and there were special teams issues.
