Angeli has arrived

I can tell you that Fran likes both kids equally. Whichever one produces during the summer and fall camp is going to be the starter. This is a 100% open competition. In my opinion we have an excellent QB room. I believe we have 4 kids in the room that we can win with. We are loaded at the position, and we have more weapons at WR than seems possible. Size speed all over the field. I have been fortunate to be around the team and although we are very young, we are also very talented.
I wrote the original post here saying that I think Angeli will be the starter against Tennessee. But also seeing Collins with Media last week, we really have two guys at the QB position that have the leadership character you look for in a starter. One may ask, how do you get multiple guys in a QB room willing to sit on the bench instead of going elsewhere to start? It’s simple, they would rather take their chances to potentially start here because they feel they will be set up for success than go elsewhere and maybe see the field more easily, but not be set up for that same level of success.

I agree. We’re faster and bigger, just younger. Fran didn’t share much in the spring game and I expect we’ll see some explosive options against Tennessee.

If we don’t start hearing some inside leaks that Angeli is clicking and making strides to become the clear #1 then we might be in trouble. Crickets so far.

This is exactly why I think that we are going to be much better than people expect this year, even against this schedule. I believe that we beat Tennessee. The youth might cost us on some plays and in some situations, and it might even contribute to a loss at some point, but this team will get stronger, barring injuries, as the season progresses and the young guys get more experience each week.

They’re pretty tight on the information that comes out. I was told positive things about Angeli from the May/June informal workouts. He’s extremely accurate. Doesn’t have a huge arm like Rickie does. But Rickie not as accurate / threw too many INTs in spring. If I was betting, I’d say Angeli will start against Tennessee. But the real competition starts soon. The guys will push each other.

As KCSU says, it’s a young but talented roster. I trust that Nixon will scheme us a lot of points. He’s a fantastic OC. We need the D to take a step up. That’s the key to me.

Just spitballing here, but why don’t we wait until they’re allowed to practice before we doom the season.
He’s been here since May. Other things like leadership, dedication to working out with the receivers, and film study are fair to evaluate before fall camp.

Spot on post. I have been fortunate to be around the team this spring and summer. These guys are locked in. Fran has created a culture that is in extremely focused and confident. The coaching is top notch. I had an opportunity to speak with Nixon, and he is one impressive individual. Blew me away. He will be a head coach or OC in the league very soon. We are so fortunate to have him. As I posted previously the team is very young and very talented. The WR room is scary good with talent. How that translates on the field remains to be seen but if anyone can scheme success its Nixon. Guy is one of the most impressive individuals I have had the pleasure to meet. Total pro should be a good ride this year.

Is starts on the DL. Run defense was poor last year and not a lot of pressure on the QB. Even modest improvements in those areas will go a long way.

Hopefully David Reese has a nice year.

This is encouraging to hear. I vividly remember being concerned in the offseason heading into the 2019 season. It struck me that the program acted as if they won a national title in 2018. Lots of "mission accomplished" vibes. And Dino retreated into a weird shell too. In retrospect it wasn't a surprise that we stunk in 2019, we had someone at the helm who clearly couldn't keep the program focused and striving for more.

Dino and his staff did their best, but they don't hold a candle to this staff. It's not even close. We haven't had this much talent on the team and staff since coach P was in charge.

I think if we can find a way to run on them like end of year last year we could beat them and our d is gonna be huge. We cant read and react as we have to be aggressive downhill defensively.

I wouldn’t say very young. Look at the roster posted by OX. The starting units are going to be dominated by upperclassmen. The only spot where young guys look to carry the load is running back.

There is young potential that will be depth and a couple of freshmen you can’t keep off the field.

I am particularly excited to see what Yasin Willis can do with more snaps. Don’t know if he can provide the same pass catching and blocking abilities that LQA did. But I think from a pure runner perspective, he has even higher upside potential than Sean Tucker.

And why might we be in trouble?

Because crickets aren't very accurate throwing a football, they are clearly suffering from a short stature problem, and finally, they only play at night.

Nixon can catch ball out of the backfield.
