Angeli has arrived

The Athletic ranks our opening opponent's QB.

Joey Aguilar

School: Tennessee
Conference: SEC
Status: Transfer

There will be plenty of eyes on Aguilar because of his place in the Nico Iamaleava saga. He gained an extra year via the Diego Pavia ruling and, after two years as a starter and a coaching change at Appalachian State, transferred to UCLA in the winter. But Iamaleava’s arrival in Westwood prompted another transfer, and Aguilar is now in position to be Iamaleava’s successor in Knoxville — though he must beat out Jake Merklinger and George MacIntyre for the starting role.
Aguilar’s skills translate well to what Tennessee does. “He’s got a cannon, so that will fit that offense perfectly with how many deep shots they take,” a former G5 recruiting director said. “And he’s a better runner than you think.”
He can trust his arm too much, though, as evidenced by his rising interception total last year. He’ll have to take better care of the ball in the SEC. But he’s confident and fearless.

Slimy David is going to sack him and push his helmet into the turf pellets.

Angeli #61

Angeli was the odd man out of a three-man competition at Notre Dame this spring and quickly landed at Syracuse, where he’ll have to beat out LSU transfer Rickie Collins. Angeli demonstrated strong poise in a relief appearance in the Orange Bowl last season and looked good in a start against a decimated Oregon State team in the Sun Bowl the year before that. Outside of that, his game is still a mystery.

Honestly, who cares?

From an uniformed external perspective, he was a third-stringer at ND, and they view our situation as having lost a great QB in Kyle McCord.

It won't be difficult for Angeli to prove them wrong and shut them up, just like McCord did last year.

But I love seeing early scouting reports like this -- it means they are sleeping on what our offense will be.

Let them.

I listen to this guy often on YouTube because it’s the only football talk out there but man it is a difficult listen..
I don’t understand why there aren’t more Cuse FB podcasters. I appreciate the Orange Zone’s emergence and Axe’s efforts but would love to see a non-media professional, super fan type podcast talking football every day.

Other teams have those guys. We need one.

Perhaps it’s your opportunity…

Coach Fran at the ACC Kickoff on S.A. --

FRAN BROWN: I thought he has been a leader since he was in high school. He's done a good job, getting a chance to follow him a little bit there. Let's be realistic, I think when he got a chance to play in that bowl game last year, he did a good job and led them to a victory.

For me, what stood out the most was Notre Dame last year, making that run and playing against Penn State when their quarterback was out and he went in. To have a guy just be able to come in with so much poise, so much leadership, seeing the team be behind him, him being able to take them down the field and score, I felt like that led to that spark that they needed for them to be able to go along and win that game and being able to go and compete in a National Championship.

There have definitely been some clown white QB s but Bnoro makes valid point. Rumored accusations or assumptions a black qB isn’t grasping playbook have become a racial trope at this point
It’s not racial, he made it racial. I think he’s way over the top on this. If Angeli starts this year will he accuse coach Brown of being racist ?

Look he struggles with mental aspects of the game. I think this conversation is completely uncalled for and absurd

Please read all my posts on the subject.

There were some comments made that went a little over the top, and it's a well known, tired trope that has been used specifically about black QBs over the years. It's okay to call out microaggressions when you see them.

As I said before, I hope the best QB wins the job, whether that is Angeli or Collins.

I think Collins is on the pole position as we start the August practices.
Villari( I think it was he) mentioned Collins was throwing 60-65 yards with ease.

One thing I have noticed compared to last year...
McCord was getting rave reviews before August.
He was working out with receivers...accuracy and leadership were plain to see.
I'm not hearing much of anything thus far from Angeli or Collins.
Angeli has been in CUSE for about 2-3 weeks...silence.

McCord was here all spring, so it gayv him more time to make an impression.

I can tell you that Fran likes both kids equally. Whichever one produces during the summer and fall camp is going to be the starter. This is a 100% open competition. In my opinion we have an excellent QB room. I believe we have 4 kids in the room that we can win with. We are loaded at the position, and we have more weapons at WR than seems possible. Size speed all over the field. I have been fortunate to be around the team and although we are very young, we are also very talented.
