very poorly organized this year

zero game day coverage
zero updates
almost no publicity

hard to draw interest when nothing is available

Devante hurt on first touch of game. Arm in a sling...
Palmer playing really well
Morgan sat out 1st. Got burned for TD on his first snap in the 2nd Q.
Barnwell with a sack.

Its on Time Warner sports in the Syracuse market.

Thanks - I can at least watch the 4th quarter and I'm in the Albany area just fyi for others.

Barnwell is off to Nassau CC and scholly will be on the table when he is finished there.

-Marcus McGill looked good, had some nice catches and has a good body for a WR.
-Kickers were pretty poor except for the 48 yarder. Missed PTs and such.
-Mcfarlane looked very good on his lone carry. Bounce and vision for a guy his size is well above average.
-6'6" 331lb lineman going to Buffalo had a good game. Big boy, full beard.
-Morgan looked a little disinterested, but I think he's kinda low key on the field. Not a lot of fire, when I was hoping he'd take over at some point. Would have liked to see the ball in his hands at some point.
-Andrew King, who's going to Army, I believe, had a great game.
-Plenty of chippiness from the two sides. Loved to see that. Want to see this bloom into a really big rivalry -- the kids take a ton of pride in being from upstate or downstate. Great for NY football.

I was wrong about Upstate being in for a ton of pain, they really played hard and got behind the D. Upstate's QB Taylor had a great day with 3 TDs. No telling what would have happened had Lynch, Jones, McFarlane played the whole game.

Pancho had multiple sacks. Good speed for 230 lbs. Morgan got beat for a TD in 1st half, caused a fumble in the 2nd half. Palmer had a good game in my opinion. McFarlane, as already posted, injured almost immediately.

From Garcia's tweets it sounded as if Omari Palmer was having his way. Lot's of pancakes mentioned in those tweets, including the lead block on McFarlane's lone run.

Final Downstate 27 Upstate 23 - came down to last 3 min - good balance between teams this year. Better game than most high school games - lots of players moving on to play in college. My buddy a high school coach said lots of stuff going on behind the scenes - they had 6 statewide combines - official/unofficial like in that the coaches association runs them - about 500 kids tested statewide about 150ish soph/juniors brought this morning to ESM (best of best) and invited to attend game today.

Idea is to get more football players scholarships by testing and raising the profile with an all star game of the 30k plus varsity kids that high school football in NY - lots of kids but not lots of scholarships.

The high school coaches love it that they get to coach in the Dome at Syracuse - they switch it up every year because a lot of these coaches will never get to coach on the college level. Not only do the players love it, but the coaches do too.

Mainly Syracuse University and Coach Marrone get all the credit behind the scenes. Most HS coaches want to have a good relationship with the University and want very much for Marrone to stay here for the long term. He mentioned it is a refreshing night/day difference from Grob who didn't give a crap (his words not mine).

Game was actually fun to watch live.

You can never put the blame for a loss on two guys but if you could Cameron McPherson and #12 for the Upstate squad would be the two guys to blame. McPherson looked slow on his feet and scared just about every snap he took. The fact that he is going to be playing college football is a true credit to the CBA hype machine. #12 was the supposed to be the personal protector on the punt team. Instead on both blocked punts he literally moved out of the way and let a guy go by him to block the punt.

The SU recruits looked decent. If Barnwell can get his grades in order and get in a little better shape I can see him helping in a few years. Morgan only practiced a day and I think that impacted his play. They tried to get him involved by returning kicks in the second half but other than a huge hit that caused a turnover and may very well have won the game for downstate he didn't do much.

Compared to the first two years I was impressed with the line play on both sides of the ball for upstate. That is one of the main reasons they got crushed in years one and two.

I am also always surprised that some D1 schools don't take chances on some of these very good athletes that are a few inches too short or fifteen pounds too light. Even during the Governor's Bowl days a lot of guys going D3 always look very impressive in these games.

I hope this competitive game can help kick start the game for years to come.

They have been having the combines for all three years of the game. They re open to any current kids in grades 8-11. Each year the regional ones have been getting bigger and bigger. As a coach I am not sure how much these help kids get recruited but any exposure is good exposure. NYS definitely doesn't have the depth of football talent that a lot of other states have, but it is about time that people start realizing our top kids can compete with just about anybody.

Good stuff.

Andrew King got both blocked punts...good looking 6'0 LB headed to Army, where he will be s star for them. Upstate wins with decent blocking. The upstate punter is lucky he didn't get seriously injured.

Campese coached Upstate and did a fine job with a team that clearly had less talent than the Downstate team. I hope they give Upstate the Hudson Valley kids next year...Downstate has a major advantage each year with LI, NYC and HV.

Thought Palmer was dominating blocking for Downstate. They got a lot of good gains running behind him. He was destroying people. Best OL on the field. He looked in relatively good shape and was amazingly agile for his size.

Barnwell played DE, was a factor on every passing play. I thought he was the best player on the field. Big kid with good closing speed, hits hard. I think he had 2.5 sacks and a lot of tackles and hurries. It is unfortunate he is going JUCO instead of to Milford, I think he could have helped us his redshirt frosh and soph seasons.

McGill did well for Upstate, think he scored 2 TDs. Has good speed, pretty good size. Would have helped us in past years but I like our WRs more than him, so I can see why we didn't offer him. Should help UB for sure.

The other top WR was a kid named Michael Richardson, who had a bunch of big catches to keep drives alive for Downstate.

One of Upstate's best players was a FB/LB named Chifton Bacon, who is going to Lackawanna. Played both ways, pretty athletic, very tough. He might end up playing D1 someday.

Mikal Myers (UConn) looked short and fat...5'11 and over 300 pounds. Did not impress. He has a lot of work to do if he is to play at the D1 level.

The game was marred by a lot of trash talking, chippy play, etc. The refs did a good job calling lots of personal fouls that kept it from becoming a brawl. It was not far from that a few times. It is a shame so many of the best players from NYS pulled out and did not participate.

Crowd was really small...just friends and family of the players.

Agreed. For a long time, especially back in the 80s and 90s, Colgate snagged a lot those types of kids. And for a while, Ithaca made a living on getting upstate players who would've gotten a chance if they were from NJ, PA, or Ohio. Kids like George Mack at Ithaca come to mind. Lots of good players from upstate had nice careers at the 1-AA level. In the 80s, SU actually had a fair number of players from places like Owego, Corning, etc on the roster.

anyone else concerned that a potential RB /LB might have issues with dislocated shoulders? Feel like that's the type of injury that is a big issue for both positions.
