Anyone else on cloud 9?

Our work here is done. Now, it's Dino's turn.
I am going to the beach for Festivus and there is nothing you Debbie Downers can do to spoil my euphoria. I am not listening to any of the "but is he a P5 player", "keep Acosta", "must recruit [enter favorite area]", "OMG he is bringing the BG staff", "why didn't they contact [enter recruit name] yet". etc., etc., etc!

Go Dino!
Go Coyle!
Go Syverud!
Go Orange!

He is admittedly kind of cheesy sometimes. Ask that dude from bgsu who was on here the other day he even said he has his "roll your eyes" moments. Look up some older interviews, he does corny stuff.
Whatever, im cool with it. Its a personality. Whatever.

As long as it doesn't involve the little engine that could or snowballs catching fire, I'm good with some cheese.

It all started with Dino's presser. It is now my new favorite quote.

"Visualize this... close your eyes, front row you're holding us up... Bud, close your eyes, fool. Visualize this, visualize this. You're in the Carrier Dome. Your house is filled. The feeling is electric. The noise is deafening. You have a defense that is relentless. You have a special teams that has been well-coached. You have an offense that WILL NOT huddle. And you have a game that's faster than you've ever seen on turf. Open your eyes. That's going to be a reality. That's going to be Syracuse Football."

Hell, I just ran through a wall in the middle of typing that.

This guy has the "it" factor covered.

I've never been so excited for spring ball in all my life.

That image brought tears to my eyes.

Even so, they're all inspiring during the opening press conference. My hard-earned pessimism has me waiting to see what happens.

As long as we win, his occasional corny stuff will be embraced. It will be Dino just being Dino. It wasn't too long ago that some of Shafe's stuff was embraced but after too many L's, it was used to mock him. Bottom line... win and who cares which is what I believe Dino will do over time.

thats a good approach it works!!! i took that approach 3yrs ago with the orange colored glasses, pollyanna group. by the way festivus is a debbie downer celebration of the airing of the grievances--excellent episode

I liked it cause he made those noodle heads actually do it

I agree with Millhouse on this as I thought it was corny. I think it would have made a stronger impact without the closing of eyes thing. HOWEVER, you make a great point in that he got those schleps to do it and probably feel uncomfortable.

This gets me thinking... Boeheim should do stuff like this. Require the brain trust from the Post Standard to do stuff (i.e. drop their pants) if they want a presser.

Just being honest. I thought Babers response was probably the most illuminating moment of the whole PC. everyone comes out guns blazing for these things, his results tell me all i need to know - i know they play fast and score a lot, that's great. but that was a side of him I didn't know, he got pissed quick. No big whoop. Maybe that edge is good for the defensive side of this savage stupid sport
in the category of didn't know it before, wrong board perhaps but kind of like Hopkins kind of smacking Gbinge (sp?) in the face a bit as a high five good job type sign, and then the wife comment in the post game presser both of which made me say "say what" with a raised eyebrow. Yeah babers, Hop, no big whup but interesting in a strange quirky way.

I've heard Belichick does this same thing. Of course, when they close their eyes he cleans out their wallets.

I'm still not convinced this is really happening.

Dino could be moving furniture, have a couch dropped on him, get concussed, and start talking about being multiple and incorporating double fullbacks and I'd almost believe that more.

My biggest worry over the weekend was that he would have a change of heart, a better offer came up or BGSU bumped up his contract. I was holding my breath the entire weekend.

He's our local Larry Merchant...

...as in, "How does this corny, old hack even have a job doing this??" kind of guy...

Larry Merchant was a knowledgeable sports writer.

He ate, drank and slept sports.

Bud writes well but I'm not sure that even he considers himself a sports writer.

Yeah, so this was a done deal Fri night about 30-45 min after the game. Coyle & Co flew to Detroit to meet with him that night.

Would disagree about that.

Plus, merchant was a purveyor of embarrassing quips and analogies just like Bud... hack crap that makes you cringe.

I want to smoke what you are, but after many years of sudden excitement to ridiculous let downs in football, I will hold off any expectations. I think Babers was a great hire, but only time and bowl wins will confirm that.
