Anyone have a scouting report on Florida? How do we match up?

Good guard driven team. Quick guards too. Boynton reminds me of Dion. Erving Walker is like the guy small PG we faced vs EMU. Rosario is good and the freshman 2G Beal is VERY good. He looked like one of the better guys in the McD AA game. Not a ton of depth so if that Murphy is out then it could help us and we should wear them down. Not a lot of size either with Patric Young being their C- at 6-9. He's improved quite a bit and is a physical freak but still raw like Fab. It will be interesting since I remember seeing a video of Young in H.S. saying how he thought Fab was overrated and that Fab was the one guy he really wanted to play against.

Murphy is their best player and it doesn't look like he is going to play. Unless Walker and Boynton are hitting ton's of 3's they don't have much of a chance. I like the match up.

Murphy is out indefinitely so we probably won't be seeing him. As for what we should be expecting from them, they are very gaurd heavy with only Young in the middle(he is a pyshical freak). They only play about 8 deep in most games. So far on the year the only game they played that should mean anything is the OSU game(which they lost 81-74). The rest of their schedule is basically the A-Sun, and they have demolished by an average of 31 points.

Echo what has been said, they are guard heavy, and no Murphy is a big break for us. We're at home, we're probably a stronger team, we should take this one, but who knows?

Florida used to continually press. From the above description it sounds like maybe they won't press as much if they are not as deep. Florida teams always play really tough defense though. Man to man, or zone? Or some combo?

Bombs away from downtown. If they hit the 3's early and often this one could be close. I am interested to see how Triche, Scoop and Dion match up with Boynton and Beal.

He's good but NOT their best player...all their guards are better players.

Murphy is not even close to being their best player, you clearly have not seen them play. Boyton and Beal are their best players. Beal might be the best freshman in the country.
I don't think we match up really well with Florida because they have one of the best backcourts in the entire country and can rain 3s with anyone. They are thin inside though.

I believe Beal is a big X-Factor for this game, he leads the team in minutes and he is averaging 17 points a game. He is an exellent rebounder for a gaurd. His biggest weakness is turnovers, he leads the team at 2.3 per game.

SU needs to pound it inside early and get Young in foul trouble. When Young is on the bench SU can get 80% of the rebounds

We are basically a perimeter team with big guys. They are a perimeter team without them. It will be our perimeter vs. theirs. The tie-breaker could be dribble penetration.

I'm really interested to see if JB rolls out the M2M early in this game to pressure their guards and negate the open 3. Don't think we'll see that but this would be a good team to try it with.

The game I watched Murphy stuck out to me. They looked lost without him out there.

Sounds like the team that will win is the one that plays the best perimeter defense and/or shuts down the other team's guards. What kind of defense do they play? If they play zone maybe JS will be a factor. Also, we will need an under control Scoop, and a very aggressive Deon. If their guards like to drive a lot, our inside shot-blocking could be a factor as well.

He's 6'10" and can shoot a 3. He may not be their best player but he's a match up nightmare.

No way JB lets them shoot open 3's all game long. Look for some M2M and extending the zone. Not sure about this one but if Florida goes small, is there an opportunity for Scoop, BT and Dion to all be on the court at the same time.

I'd have thought the same thing about the Villanova game last year.

I fear that this one will unfold the same way - a ton of Florida threes early on, low-40s to high-20s halftime score after SU goes into panic mode and forgets how to run an offense, low-80s to mid-70s final score after both teams settle down and play evenly after the half and SU's frantic pressing run comes up a bucket or two short in the last 90 seconds.

But I hope not.

They will still press a fair amount. I know, it's heresy. JB says you can't do it more than a few possessions or it loses its effectiveness.
