AP (23) / Coaches (25) Polls for Dec 1

And they ensured the Big 12 was secure with Arizona State being 12

Georgia rewarded for an 8 OT win at home over Tech by moving up as well.

Pretty clear this was games to keep SEC, ND, Big Ten in safely.

Was ND really even punished by pollsters for that ugly Northern Illinois loss?
Imagine GA Tech had beat Georgia. Georgia would have 3 losses and fall beyond top 15. All ACC teams got instant boost in rankings.

How is Lville 15? They're 8-4 and lost to Stanford

I would guess it was playing a tough schedule. OOC they had Jacksonville State who is one of the better G5s, at Kentucky who isn't good but they are still an SEC team, and at Notre Dame who is Top 5. Besides that they played the top of the ACC (GA Tech, SMU, Miami, at Clemson). All of their 4 Ls were within 7 points. They are better than their record. You can make the argument that they are the 3rd best ACC team this year.

Another 14 for Miami. They’re done. No CFP for them. But at least Alabama got another 11. Thank god they’re guaranteed a CFP spot. It’s all BS. Illinois LOLOL.

Miami dropping further in the polls after a road loss to a (now) ranked Syracuse team than Ohio State fell after losing AT HOME to a terrible Michigan team shows just how biased these polls are toward the two mega leagues.

It matters little, but still ridiculous. We literally played one game against a team that ended with a losing record (Stanford). We won 5 games aginst teams with winning records and 3 6-6 teams.

Meanwhile, Illinois won 2 games against teams with a winning record.

And don't get me started on UNLV. We literally beat them at their place.

Make it make sense.

Clemson not only being ahead of us, but 5 spots ahead in one poll and 8 spots ahead in the other poll is an absolute joke and proves what a joke these polls have always been.

I posted each team's wins in another thread and Clemson's best win is a win over 7-5 Pitt who was starting a backup QB and that they were trailing in the last minute. Their next best win is against 6-6 Virginia Tech (who we beat too). Syracuse meanwhile has wins over #6 (now #14 Miami), @ #19 UNLV, Georgia Tech and several other decent teams. SU and Clemson are both 9-3. I'd love an explanation from the pollsters on how Clemson could not only be ahead of Syracuse but several spots ahead.

Louisville is the one I don’t get.

I get that our loss to Stanford is probably weighing us down in the polls, but the question I have is why is ND's loss to N. Illinois not weighing them down in the polls? Just seems like there's way too much brand bias.

but they lost 3 of those 5... and a forth to Stanford... I'm not actually asking you to quantify it, as there is no logical reasoning, but rather pointing to the non sense in these polls.

Cuse 9-3 with best win Miami and worst loss Stanford should not be behind Lville 8-4 best win Clemson and worst loss Stanford. Rewarding teams for playing, as losing, to higher ranked teams is circular logic. Had Lville beaten those 3 teams none would be ranked as highly so they would drop SOS and rankings by winning?

The whole thing is brand bias. It's my favorite sport in the world, but the games literally don't matter which makes it frustrating. It's an invitational and all that matters is the logo on your jersey.

Bama lost to 6-6 vandy and was embarrassed by and average Oklahoma team. Those results exclude everyone not named Alabama, Georgia or Ohio State from consideration.

If we had Louisville's schedule we might be 6-6 and not 9-3. That is what the computer rankings try to even out, the unbalanced schedules.

Common opponents they were 3-2 and we were 2-3.

Yep. You're arguably better off being ranked pre-season than actually getting ranked based on the merits of your performance.

Yup. We pretty much gave away the BC game.
Both somehow lost to Stan, beat GT and we swapped Miami/Pitt games.

Though they got Pitt on a swoon and we get them at the peak.

Looking at the list, I only count two.
GT was ranked when we beat them.

Furthermore, if rankings early in the season don't count then why even rank teams early in the season? Its all BS anyway. No one knows anything until a few weeks into the season. Remember when we thought early in the season/summer that this schedule was going to be "easy".

Whats the combined record of our wins?
How many bowl teams?
How many ranked?

Determining a champ with...

Bowls
Rose Bowl #1 Oregon or #1 Penn State vs NR Washington State
Sugar Bowl #2 Texas or #2 UGA vs #12 Arizona State or #16 Iowa Sate
Fiesta Bowl #3 Notre Dame vs #4 Tennessee

So either Oregon, Penn State, Texas, UGA, Tennessee, or Notre Dame is Champ (6 teams sill alive).

BCS
B1G CG winner would play the SEC CG winner. So either Oregon, Penn State, Texas, or UGA is Champ (4 teams still alive).

4 team playoff
B1G winner would be the 1 seed. SEC winner the 2 seed. Notre Dame would make it as a 3 or 4 seed. A close loss by Oregon could keep them in as the 3 seed. Same for Texas as a 4 seed. SMU could sneak in as the 4 seed by winning the ACC CG. So one of Oregon, Penn State, Texas, UGA, Notre Dame, or SMU (6 teams still alive).

My proposed 9 conference split where conferences are capped at 10 teams...

AAC: Army vs Memphis (or Louisville)
ACC CG: South Carolina vs Clemson
Big 8 CG: BYU vs Iowa State (or Mizzou)
B1G: Ohio State vs Indiana
Big East: Penn State vs Notre Dame
MWC: Boise State vs UNLV
PAC: Oregon vs Arizona State
SEC: UGA vs Tennessee
SWC: Texas vs SMU

Playoffs are the 9 conference champs and the B1G, Big East, SEC, SWC losers plus Bama and then Oregon should they lose or Boise State should they lose and Oregon wins or Miami if both Oregon and Boise win.

Assuming chalk...

1. Oregon
2. Texas vs 15. Army
3. Penn State vs 14. Bama
4. UGA vs 13. Miami
5. Ohio State vs 12. BYU
6. Tennessee vs 11. SMU
7. Boise State vs 10. South Carolina
8. Notre Dame vs 9. Indiana

I agree. Rankings are stupid.
