AP / Coaches Polls for Oct 20

Saw this on Twitter so not sure it is completely accurate but only three schools have not been ranked in the AP poll since the start of 2019: West Virginia (2018 Final Poll), Texas Tech (2018 Week 5), and Rutgers (2012 Week 13).

Seems like we broke WV in our Bowl game.

We have the offense to score 40+ if we break a couple plays instead of always needing 7min 15 play drives

Whether our defense limits Pitts big plays is the question.

I’m hoping we steam roll Pitt. It’s about time we put 4 full quarters of football together.
I'm hoping our boys come out of the bye HUNGRY. It would be nice to not have a let down. I want our boys to come out and just execute. Don't get too high or too low. Just execute and walk out with a methodical win.

Yeah, people say we’re explosive, but we’re not explosive. We’re a ball control offense. Thank god McCord is as accurate and pretty efficient as he is. If we didn’t possess the ball as much as we do, we’d be in trouble defensively. I like eating the clock as long as we score TDs. That was the issue in the NC St game, we didn’t score. But, yes, I agree, it’d be nice if we could score a couple of quick-hitters now and then. It would change the complexion of games completely and put much more pressure on opposing offenses because we eat clock so much. If we could go up a couple of scores more easily, it would make other teams take more risks. I think this is where we are really missing Zeed Hynes. We could really use a downfield threat.

I think you are mostly correct. But, I think opponents are taking away the the explosive plays and McCord is taking what the D is giving. He is looking for the explosive plays, but they aren't there. So, we move the ball with the under routes. I really hope Zeed is doing well and we get him up at some point, he will make a huge difference. But, in the meantime, Meeks, Hatcher, OG3 and JRS should be able to do some damage.

I feel bad for WVU. They are stuck in the B12. Their program is in a death spiral and it is hard to imagine them getting better anytime soon. Unless you are a crazy guy on ESPN Game Day.

The poll only matters at the end. We need to win out to get in the tournament . So it’s irrelevant to me where we are now.

It’ll be terrible if we lose 2 and don’t make it yet a 4 loss bama does

I know everyone has this talking point recently that Stanford is awful but 3/4 of their last opponents were ranked. They're on a 4 game losing skid but they've had a ROUGH four game stretch opponent wise.

Yeah the losses were blowouts but I still think they're gonna finish either 6-6 or 5-7.

We don't have explosive plays, but we also don't make any. When was the last SU player other Shrader to make 2-3 people miss and make a 50yd play out of a 5?

We take slants for nice 30yd gains but not for TDs
We dont make a couple miss on a WR screen
Or RBs dont get in the hole and end up 60 yds down field

We make the occasional blown coverage/DB fall down play and the WRs have made a few nice catches

We just don't have those players.

Though when Tremble and Hornby got a bit a time to touch the ball they seemed to be looking for that electric play.

They had to go but they are now 55-56 in the B12. I hadn't realized that they have been that bad. Although a lot of it has to do with Neal Brown. He is 22-26 and 34-33 overall. Surprised he still has a job. This is year 6 and could be his 4th losing season.

I don't feel sorry for them though. Their kookery all these years is deserving of their recent record.

our reputation is bad as we get into November. Need to change this perception.

Voters think very little of us
I doubt it has anything to do with historic performance in November and everything to do with Stanford being a really tough loss and a lot of blown leads at the end of games. For the media that votes on box scores and doesn't watch the games, Syracuse doesn't appear to have outplayed anyone other than Holy Cross.

It’s not entirely irrelevant… hard to climb when you’re trying to push out the guys who are already there

neither has Miami in many games

It would be amazing if we beat Pitt on Thursday night, and then on Friday night UNLV beats #17 Boise State at home. That would be two rock solid road wins on our resume in addition to Georgia Tech and NC State.

Nitpicking poll "logic" is a waste of time. So much of poll placement has to do with pre-season expectations, perceived brand and conference strength, the capriciousness of highlight viewing, etc.

Just keep winning and it'll take care of itself. People love a "turnaround in Syracuse" narrative. We just haven't given anyone a reason to use it past mid-October in 6 years.

And UNLV lost at home to “that” team.
So UNLV lost to a pretty good team (us) and we lost to an objectively poor team (Stanford).

By the way, since we blew that Stanford game they have been outscored 160-38 in 4 games!

Too bad Ohio had the 2 best players get dinged up We could have had wins over 2 Cong champs OC.

you wonder if flying To SU and Clemson and home and back to ND and back home has added up?

Would be nice. We always hope we steam roll opponents. Seems extremely unlikely though.

SU beat UNLV at UNLV. All that matters. It’s not like #100 beat #10.

Personally, I think the flying thing isn't a big deal. These teams are all on charters. They take off and at worst 4 hours later they land. D 2 and 3 schools have been taking bus rides for 50 plus years that are longer. I mean does it really make a difference if you fly 2 hours or 4?
