Are we better with Hima out there over McLeod?

With more playable centers more time can be given to Brown at PF, where he can rotate with Benny. Taylor can then give us another option at SF. Overall, Hima allows more options. Is he better than McLeod - probably.

Looking at today’s results, one would have to think so. He’s a lot more mobile, better defensively, and come to think of it, he’s pretty much better at everything. Love having another option in there at the very least. We need to get Maliq back to his normal position.

I liked Hima last year but he was just a little small against some centers. He provides a good third option for us. I’m not impressed with McLeod’s effort, and he just looks lost out there sometimes. Hima and Maliq seem higher energy hustlers

Long term, no. I think Red caught lightning in a bottle today with Hima. He might be able to give this team something occasionally when the matchups are favorable, but I don't expect to see him getting regular minutes in every game.

You guys gotta be careful extrapolating the performance of a bit player coming off the bench for short spells to how their performance would be in extended minutes . It’s like the utility baseball player who seems pretty good when he gets in there and you wonder how they’d be if they got much more playing time. I’m basically telling you the cautionary tale of Randy Velarde.

Warts begin to show quite rapidly in a lot of these guys . He may be better than McCleod but I don’t see how anyone can say that with any confidence at this sample .

Hima has played 9 minutes this season. I'm not sure we can say much with confidence. I'll say this, I thought Hima would make a fine defensive specialist last season, and I also think Red is covering up and injury he has.

If Hima is healthy enough to give us good minutes, even 10 good minutes a game, it makes this team better. McLeoud is really good in certain situations, and not so good in others. The more Red gets to pick and choose the better.

i believe we now have a new coach who is not locked into one set defense or rotation. red seems to be making the appropriate adjustments as circumstances dictate. teams can no longer prep for the same look every time down the court. mixing up defenses and personal makes us less predictable and therefore more dangerous. ed cooley is a very good coach. different looks knocked him off his game today.

McLeod moves far better than Hima. If Hima can deliver a good 8-14 mins, that’s great. Would hope for more from McLeod as Brown at the 5 and a shaky Benny at 4 is a rebounding disaster in the ACC.

Naheem is thinking too much. His reflexes seemed a bit slow lately. Maybe he's had a cold or something. He looked sluggish and a bit out of it.

I think with most of our guys it will be a game to game thing on who plays well. Judah and Maliq are known, for now everyone else is game to game. Red has to find the right mix every game.

I think you're right. I also like seeing more guys contribute. If we have a couple dependable guys, and then another 6 who could have a good game, that makes us better. We only need a couple of them to be "on", and it takes the pressure off everybody, when everybody is playing and contributing.

There were at least two occasions when a Gtown player broke free from his defender, and drove to the basket with McLeod standing to the other side of the basket. He did nothing, no movement toward the player-nothing, to stop the easy bucket. He stood flat-footed watching the ball go in the basket. WTH??

I agree that Hima still looks a little unsure of his footing out there, but with MacLeod, his reactions are like he's on Nyquil lately. I hope he can snap out of it, or work to improve his footwork and reflexes. He needs the work.

You can play either one or neither.

you play who’s playing well. I know weve had set rotations forever but it’s better to be able to react to who’s playing well

The answer is...maybe.
Just like with Bell, JTaylor, Cope, and even Benny, you go with who's playing well that day. It's refreshing to have options, since the last few years w/ JB offered few, if any. Red is willing to mix it up, and that's a good thing.

Hima looked good. If he is healthy he is a big plus for the team.

Hima provided solid minutes today, but I totally disagreed with Red pulling McLeod when he did today. McLeod got back screened in the lane and I’m not sure whose man it was, but they did not call out the screen and then did not help at all, allowing a wide open layup. Red hooked him immediately after, but I’m not sure what McLeod was supposed to do there when getting screened and receiving zero help.
