are we even gonna have any corners left to play in the bowl game?

Will we have enough to field a 2 deep defense after this week —> next weeks portal action ……… that is the question.

The spirit is to get bent out of shape when half the team decides they don't want to play?

The spirit is to watch the game if you don't have anything better to do because it really is a glorified scrimmage at this point. Why not use some reserves as well to get them a few reps. People rave about the extra 15 practices why not get them some playing time as well.

Not sure what Minnesota will have going in either

I volunteer to play. I haven’t played corner since 8th grade, weigh about 90 pounds more and am sufficiently slower. But I’ll lace em up if the team needs me. Just don’t boo me when I tackle the wide receiver at the line every play.

Yep. I'm not making the trip, too much cash around Christmas for a scrimmage game. I'll watch the game, because what else am I going to do on a Thursday at 2 pm if there's a Syracuse football game on.

It would be nice to win, but I really don't care if we lose. You can't just lose a bunch of players and then still have expectations.

Kaiser always said the players were sheep, there for our entertainment, and then gone. Never believed that more than now. I don't blame them for getting the best deal for themselves (I blame the administrations for creating a big business and not thinking it through). But at the same time, I really don't have the energy to care about the players anymore. NFL mentality. When a guy is on the Bills, I like him. When he's not, then I don't care.

There are 13 DBs remaining as of this AM, including starters at safety Justin Barron, Ja'Had Carter and Alijah Clark. Isaiah Johnson, who took over after Garrett Williams' injury, is still here. Quan Peterson was behind Duce on the BC depth chart, so I would guess he starts.

Starting D-line is still in tact. Linebacking group hasn't lost anyone. Syracuse has only lost 9 total guys to the portal, which is a very low number compared to a lot of schools right now. There were some who had lost as many as 15+ players on Day 1 of the portal.

Are there going to be unfamiliar faces playing the bowl? Yes. Will any injured guys be back? Dino said yes (not the guys out for season, think Mikel and McDonald). Is depth an issue for SU? Certainly, but it's not nearly as concerning in a one-off game as it is midseason.

That sounds like a personality flaw on Kaiser's part.
What makes them men and not sheep in our eyes is the belief that they love SU as much as we do and that, by playing for SU, they become indelible parts of the history of the program.
Personally, I want to root for them as players and as alums down the road.

We have a starting LB in the portal not playing the bowl game and some back ups who have hit the portal but overall we’re going into the game in pretty good shape.

Isn’t Carter in the portal?

Rule 15.1 of the second edition of playbook 2.1 of the third series says you can bring back players on current NFL teams to fill out your roster in spots where players have left for NIL money. I think this means we can bring back Iffy and Trill for the bowl game.

LGO!

Regarding Emily's tweet, it was pre-Carter but still a bit glib with the 'total numbers' take. She may groan but we are going to be thin in the defensive backfield on December 29th. With our top 3 backfield guys gone (Duce, Carter and GW), we ducked a bullet when JW decided to return. He'll play (opposite IJ), but neither of the transfers is bowl-eligible.

The minor bowls have devolved into glorified scrimmages. The trend started a few years ago. When we beat W Virginia, their best players sat it out. Now everyone does it.

I honestly don't understand why they don't open the portal after the bowl season.

The mass exodus on many teams means that kids who may not be ready to play will have to play. That is a dangerous situation. And teams who have little depth at certain positions are also in a very precarious situation

It’s not complicated. The early signing period is next week. Players want to be available to compete for available scholarships before they’re snatched up by high school recruits.

It’s like a big game of musical chairs with the number of available scholarships being the chairs.

Schools also want to be able to assess and recruit the kids in time to get the player enrolled for the spring semester (which begins at Cuse on January 17th).
