Then I actually think it would be a good thing to wait until after bowl season. Many would disagree with me, I suppose. It’s not complicated. The early signing period is next week. Players want to be available to compete for available scholarships before they’re snatched up by high school recruits.
It’s like a big game of musical chairs with the number of available scholarships being the chairs.
Schools also want to be able to assess and recruit the kids in time to get the player enrolled for the spring semester (which begins at Cuse on January 17th).

If a student has to wait until after bowl season, maybe that makes them think twice about portaling if scholarships aren't as widely available. Maybe football programs will be more likely to recruit actual high school athletes if they know they won't necessarily be able to get portal transfers in time for the spring semester. And maybe, just maybe, this whole s___show slows down a little bit. And maybe, just maybe, teams can play with a full roster during bowl season
I hear everything you are saying. When you put it as you do, that makes me even more firmly believe there has to be more guidelines on this thing. I don't understand who would want to coach in this environmentInteresting.
The championship game is on January 9th. Spring semester classes at SU start EIGHT days later on January 17th.
Would it be a good thing to not allow players to enter the portal until after Bowl games have concluded?
Would you also not allow coaches to be fired or hired until after the bowl games?
Impossible.
It is a lot to manage now and from the outside it sure looks like show.
Babers is working his tail off; losing coordinators, hiring a new DC, still looking for an offensive assistant, recruiting portal kids, recruiting hs kids, managing portal losses, NFL early entrants, Bowl game opt outs, injuries, academic casualties and more. Oh, and preparing those that are left for a bowl game.
As a fan, it’s frustrating. I can’t imagine how it feels for Dino, his staff and the players who will be on an empty campus for another week and missing the holidays with their families before leaving for NYC to play the bowl game. I’m dizzy.
Players will be home for a little more than two weeks before they return to Syracuse for the spring semester (Dec 30th - Jan 16th). I think they get one week off before the winter strength and conditioning program starts. Keep in mind the players have been on campus since fall camp opened the first week in August.
As I understand it, the winter strength and conditioning program is four days a week starting at like 6:30am. An early start time isn’t a big deal except for the days that it’s less than 20 degree and dark outside. The early enrollees from HS and the transfers have something to look forward to.
Most people couldn’t do what these guys do. They are special.
Sorry for that rambling.
It wouldn't matter. If guys knew they were leaving, they would sit out the bowl because they wouldn't want to get hurt and not be as attractive to a new school.I honestly don't understand why they don't open the portal after the bowl season.
The mass exodus on many teams means that kids who may not be ready to play will have to play. That is a dangerous situation. And teams who have little depth at certain positions are also in a very precarious situation
Actually, never mind what I just said. After thinking it through, you are right. I am wrongInteresting.

I think Belichick ran that in the playoffs once. Are there any coordinators available who have perfected the 3-7-1?
I'd like to think that too, and did until recently. The landscape changes just don't let me anymore. It's why my interest is waning. That sounds like a personality flaw on Kaiser's part.
What makes them men and not sheep in our eyes is the belief that they love SU as much as we do and that, by playing for SU, they become indelible parts of the history of the program.
Personally, I want to root for them as players and as alums down the road.
