Are we really this bad?

Central Michigan is going bowling and has 6 wins. (The team we beat 40-7)

USF and SU have the same record (The team that had Skip Holtz as coach)

WVU is in the top 25 (yes the team we beat in the last 3 times)
Minnesota is in the top 20 (the team we beat 9 months ago in the Texas Bowl)

Just some perspective as to how we have regressed against some competition we have and used to beat.

I don't want to hear the recruiting has improved bs. We're in the ACC, it better improve!!! How about we look at recruiting rankings relative to the teams in our league in contrast to recruiting rankings comparative to the teams we played in the old Big East. Somehow we still can't get anything higher than a 3 star.

Done with this coaching staff. That interview with Shafer about taking "overlooked" recruits and turning them into NFL players, dude enough, we're not getting back to the Top 25 with your little projects.

Either recruit better or coach better. I don't care which.

Over reaction much? We're missing a bunch of starters. Depth is horrible.

Not over reacting, we are just above Wake in the overall standings for the ACC. It's fact.

If we can't beat NC State and are just better than Wake Forest, which team in the P5 can we realistically say we are better than??

We're better than Wake Forest, Purdue, and Kansas. On par with Vandy, Rutgers, Indiana, NCSU, Colorado, WSU, Iowa State and a few others.

We're not improving out of that group without an uptick of talent on the field and on the sidelines.

Syracuse is a private school in the northeast without much in the way of fertile local recruiting grounds. Syracuse's only hope in being consistently good is to nail the coaching/development side of the equation. Syracuse needs its Briles/Harbaugh/Franklin/Cutcliffe and coach/recruit/develop/scheme better than the competition.

Shafer is not that guy. As mentioned above, he coaches like a meathead. He's done great with the family thing and he seems like a great guy. I'd have him as a coordinator. But he simply does not have the coaching ability to take a school like Syracuse and make them a consistent top 30 or so team (I'm skeptical a Shafer program could consistently be top 50, but that's me.)

The defense has been pretty good and will probably get better with another year of the same system. NCS averaged 18 points against ACC opponents (FSU 41, Clemson 0, BC 14, Louisville 18). Our D held them to 17 right on their ACC average.

Murphy seems like the real deal.
Riley is a really good punter.
Ish is going to be terrific.

I am not confident of anything else at this point.

We have regressed since the coaching change -- talent has improved, the coaching - well, you saw it today
Are some of you people serious? We just played a game with the second string offensive line and a true freshman QB and you wonder why we can't win? I mean seriously did you expect something else? People wondering why we couldn't run the football. Most schools would have very little chance I'm that situation. The schedule prior to this game was simply awful , it was designed to fail.

I believe this team was much better than last years team but becuse of the schedule and the outrageous number of injuries it hasn't allowed this team to succeed.

I'm trying to think of guys who have improved throughout their time here? Nobody really stands out. Our player development sucks.

You can't tell me with a straight face that we are better than any of those teams. NC State is on par with Vandy, Rutgers, Indiana, NCSU, Colorado, WSU, Iowa State AND we just lost to them.

In any case, that is lofty company we are in.

Remember when reporters asked Marrone what he thought of us being the best 0-2 team in the country in 2012? He said "You are what your record says you are...and right now we are an 0-2 football team."

Right now we are a 3-6 football team. All of the "we have a lot of injuries", "we are playing with a 2nd string O-Line", etc. etc. My answer to the O-Line injuries - recruit better 2nd stringers for the O-Line.

Add up all those excuses (that's what they are) and see how many bowl games that gets you and tell me how they change your record.

We don't score points and we didn't last year either. It is just a few less per game this year.

Our first string QB was having a horrible season so that is not really any worse with Hunt that it was. As for the OL we were playing the 13th ranked defensive unit in the ACC. We simply beat ourselves, again. Minus 3 TO ratio.

When you have 345 yards passing the rushing lanes usually open up. We averaged 1 yard per carry and NCS sacked Long 8 times for -57 yards. So yes, I expect better even from a banged up line.

NCS is a terrible team.

Yes. Meanwhile, the program we stomped in a bowl game two years ago is top 20, hosting GameDay, and about to beat #7.
They run a good offense and stick with it

Shafer isn't getting fired. But he also isn't a very good head coach. And he hired some poor assistant coaches. That is the root of all the problems.

The talent level has improved since the Marrone days, its mainly coaching. Shafer will survive this year, but next year with FSU, LSU, and Clemson on the schedule...(I count those as 3 loses) he has to win 6 of 9 games to make a bowl, small margin for error. Best of luck to him because if SU only wins 3 or 4 this year and he fails to make a bowl next year, then he will be fired.

Agree. SU beat Nova, C.Mich, and Wake...and we were LUCKY to beat Nova. (their kicker choked and easy one)

These last 3 games could be real ugly.

Defensive line has improved and is building depth. Lots of good young linebackers coming through the system. Hopefully the OL recruited over the last 2 cycles can develop. Would love to have a 6'5 250 lb tight end who can catch the ball.

Nassib. Cam Lynch. Robinson (both of them). West. idk, there have been more than a few imo.

Only problem today was a greatly banged OL. Starters out, starters playing that probably shouldn't yet, and some backups who had to play, not playing their normal position.

The defense was great after the first couple drives. We again had more yardage and first downs. Came down to the huge swing with the INT. Instead of up 21-9 or 17-9, we're down 17-14. That and the banged up OL killed us.

Shout out to West and Lewis. Great games.

Even if we get to 6-6 it screams mediocre. And I still think we can...

But I don't want to be a 6-6 team ANYMORE. Heck, we might not win a game!!! But yeah a team shouldn't have to scratch and claw for a bowl...

Assuming we would actually throw it to him!

OK, let's try this again - somebody cheer me up!

By mid week you will posting about a 50-50 possibility of going 3-0 if we get X players back...

Hey, I tried Crusty.

You 100% correct. I am working on that theory as we speak!
