Are we really this bad?

Seriously? I thought you were one of the more knowledgeable posters here.

I'm trying to think of guys who have improved throughout their time here? Nobody really stands out. Our player development sucks.

After that Nova game, I really lost a lot of faith in the coaching staff. I'm willing to give them another year, but we'll really need to have a signature win to go bowling next year.

You 100% correct. I am working on that theory as we speak!
You can't tell me that when AJ put those 2 scoring drives together and was on the verge of making it 21-9 , that you weren't thinking , " By George I Think He's Got It". I believe everyone was thinking that , then youthful indiscretion reared it's head , but that was a point of great hope right there. Next time he will be wiser.

I think the team is on par with the bottom half of ACC schools, and hopefully will pick up some wins against Duke, Pitt and BC. Watching this game though, i couldnt help but think these kids are physically and mentally exhausted. 8th straight game. Third team coming off a bye. Offense is down its starting QB, best two receiving playmakers, and the entire line is nicked. Defense has had a several key injuries.

Things had to break well for this to be a 6 or 7 win team. Unfortunately, things have broke terribly, and the team is suffering the cost.

We're better than Wake Forest, Purdue, and Kansas. On par with Vandy, Rutgers, Indiana, NCSU, Colorado, WSU, Iowa State and a few others. We're not improving out of that group without an uptick of talent on the field and on the sidelines.

We're on par with Rutgers, Penn State, Pitt, Maryland and BC.

We are just so banged up...

Its tough. They are trying. I really can't blame shafe or any of our coaches except will hicks, maybe.

Still have a chance to go bowling... However, We are just soooooo Injured. Highly unlikely

We are banged up, but that's not an excuse. It's week 10 everyone is banged up. Look at the injury reports. Maryland's as long as ours. BC is only playing with 73 scholarship players before injuries.

Actually, I hold my breath every time we have the ball as AJ has just been wreckless with the ball every game. I grant you you he makes some great plays but he just seems to give everything back with some rookie mistake.

Usually players like AJ are hard to develop because they think they can do more than is possible at this level. Some learn many don't. Hope he does for our sake.

What other p5 team has played 8 straight? We need a bye. Look banged up and weary.

Whatever math guy that made this schedule needs to be fired

I agree with the meathead comment, I don't want to but I have a tough time believing anything else. Marrone had less talent and did not stand for this crap.

We have a lot of individual talent, that does seem to be improving. I truly believe that despite a continuation of smaller wide receivers and running backs joining our team. That we are keeping games close in the face of our injuries speaks well of the talent.

I just can't see how it is that this talent can't win games. We are often a turnover or two away from winning and we just can't execute. Unfortunately, the result on the field is all over the map. Brilliance one moment, stupid mental mostake the next.

At the moment. I believe we will get better before the season ends as the young players continue to grow up fast and the injured players have a chance to get better. When healthy, we are still mediocre. But I still think the program is getting better overall.

I am beginning to think we have Gerg part deux, not quite the same in severity yet, but a coach who is not getting the job done. I now see us going winless the rest of this season, and the thought of it drives me nuts.
You can say what you want about depth and injuries, but how does that change all the missed tackles, and poorly executed blocking on offense at the edges, or the many instances of lack of discipline on offense. I believe Shafer tries to hard to be a buddy to his players, and in my opinion that can be detrimental to team development and especially discipline.
I admit this game was very depressing for me to take, but I am not seeing a glimmer of this team moving in the right direction in many phases of the game.
The major bright spot is the defense continues in my opinion to play well enough to keep us competitive at least.
I also think we win this game with Hunt at QB. I like AJ, but he is simply not ready either physically or mentally to play at this level. He has shown in the last two games to be very turnover prone(fumbles and bad ints). I understand that Hunt is unavailable and am merely making a comment vis a vis the two players.

I do not. Where is the empirical proof of that? certainly not in wins, and certainly not in offensive production( I. E. Scoring).
I hope you are correct though, because I want you to be correct. The alternative is not attractive.

It might not be the best time to make that judgement, with this schedule and all the injuries.
Excuses, merely excuses. I am talking more about the actual team discipline and how the games are being played especially by the offense. I am not seeing the development you appear to be, in fact I am seeing the opposite.
Again I hope you are correct and I am not, but just not seeing it that way. I can not see winning another game much less being bowl eligible.

I'm more concerned with our backfield situation next year.

Who will run the ball?

When we look back on the season it will be:

- a really tough schedule vs some of the best D's in the nation with
- no bye week for 8 games,
- starting a freshman in the middle of the season,
- while changing OC's and
- being historically beat up and injured

You can see them as excuses - but if well timed bye weeks, experienced QB's, and staying healthy are things teams point to as reasons for success - we can see the reverse as true here.

Our coaching is that bad, yes. NCSU is not a better team than us, we gave them the game. Though, I guess that means they are better since coaching is a big part but we had the game won. If Shafer stays, than time to get someone here who can call plays, make adjustments and go with the flow of the game. We drive down with ease then they call a play bound to fail out of nowhere.

McDonald situation is already ruined, he's gone. Why not start over now before we give Shaf another year and end up where we were before Marrone got us back on track.

If he stays, he needs help. He's clearly lost and not getting any better, just doesn't have the intangibles to be a head coach.

I am trying hard not to overreact, but this game has really depressed me. Everyone drops passes. nobody blocks. 39 yards rushing against a lousy defense.

This is a crazy stat it was clear that Moore had the hot hand at RB in this game and he was used sparingly ... not that they really handed the ball off to Phillips mcfarlane or morris much to find out. PTG had a few good runs and some really bad ones. Moore when handed the ball was running through two guys to be brought down by the 3rd and 4th. Straight ahead runnning would have tired out the nc D and opened up our passes more. No he wouldn't necessarily broken one for 50yds but he had 2-3 yards after contact every time.

Also Phillips was in for probably 50% of the plays and it felt like he didn't get much run.

I disagree with your assertion that we have a lot of individual talent. Where exactly? At what position do we have superior talent vs. our ACC competition? I can think of only one, with Hickey. Every year this board gets excited about our "under the radar" talent that our brilliant coaching staff uncovers before anybody else. At best, our recruiting has gotten slightly better since the Big East, but we're in a way better conference now and it shows. Next man up/I trust the coaches.
