Arizona fires Kevin Sumlin / hires Jedd Fisch

This seems like a crazy hire on paper. I guess the NFL experience helps when it comes to recruiting players. It seems crazy to me that you wouldn't want a guy with proven experience building or even leading a program before handing him the keys to a power 5 job.

Marrone was a weird hire for us if you didn’t know he played here. These guys can have weird connections that work out

Agreed some times they work out. I have to admit i was not crazy about the Marrone hire at the time. His binders and coffense coordinator experience with the Saints ,must have been very convincing at the interview.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Their big rival, ASU, hired two NFL head coaching types and have had success.

Ergo, the wildcats go the NFL route seeking to emulate that success.

At least they were Head Coaches?

for a second I was thinking they hired this guy, but I guess the spelling of their last names are different:

Mac, Tim Green, and Floyd

get this through your head, SU is not wasting millions to pay a guy not to coach. They need every dollar possible to get through what is undoubtedly a financial crisis
Yeah, yeah, makes sense BUT...Way back in April Arizona announced across the board Faculty/Staff pay cuts of 20%, or furloughs in lieu, That is a lot of money 20% off the top of your salary, and the ex football coach gets $7 mil or so

I would be pissed if I worked there, Who cares about 9-20 when I am out 20%. And I bet you would be pissed too, and not give a damn how crappy the football team was if your paycheck was down 20%.

Now, things could have improved or some athletic departments have weird separate setups, funded by tickets and donor cash. But still, AZ was neck deep in financial crisis, and they fired the coach.

Athletic departments have a separate budget. As I noted above, one of their boosters paid for most/all of the $7M.

I was at his first game as Arizona head coach. I have pictures of him getting off of the team bus, etc..

Sad to see anyone go through this. :(

There are times when Uber can really be your friend/need.
Ya with the money he has made idc if the Uber costs you $2k it’s worth it.
