As a Syracuse fun, what brings you the greatest satisfaction?

Great to be a fan of a team that can be in every game it plays. A team that all our opponents mark on their calendars. A team that is nationally relevant most years. A team that makes our former players assistant coaches.

Aside from the assortment of wins, I absolutely love seeing a packed Dome and knowing how much the basketball program means to the community. The stories about nursing homes gathering to watch every game and seeing the video of that little kid crying when Scoop was finishing up his career. Also the idea of Jim Boeheim. Just going to savor these last few years with him patrolling the sideline, because no matter how good Hop ends up being, JB is something more than a legend and there will likely never be anyone like him in a high level sport in most of our lifetimes.

I enjoy the heroics and indelibly memorable plays. Hak's swat to seal the deal in '03. GMac's runner 3 to beat Cinci and subsequent run to the BE title in '06. Devo's 3 (waved off) and then 6 OTs of agony, excitement and eventually pure joy against in 2009. MCW's steal and run-out dunk to ruin Louisville's day in the Yum Center last year. These are just a handful from the past decade but those moments and the anticipation of those to come keep me a very happy fan.

Engaging in spirited discussions about whether or not the court should be moved for games against prominent opponents. Ah, nothing enlivens the blood like witty repartee!

Dammit, I didnt know this picture existed! I have made references to his answer about winning the lottery or whatever 2 or 3 times in the last week or so. I'm not quite sure how it relates to being a Syracuse fan, but I gave you a like for finding that picture for me! I just might watch Office Space tonight to hear that one classic answer!
Why does it say paper jam when there is no paper jam?

Personally I take more pleasure in being a Syracuse football fan - the expectations for basketball are so high that there's always a nagging feeling of what might have been for anything short of a Final Four appearance...in football we an take pride in winning the Texas Bowl.

Also, basketball has been a power program essentially my entire life - our "down periods" don't last very long, and would be considered decent years at most schools. I remember renewing my season tickets for football after a one win 2005 season, and thinking that it was a defining moment in my life - sticking with a program that had completely collapsed and feeling like I was part of the rebuilding process as a result has been very gratifying to me. I've been told by friends and family that I can be a total pain in the ass...but I'm also the first one they think to call when they need help; So I guess by disposition I'm more inclined to stick with a lousy team than to take a lot of pleasure out of rooting for a top program.

I do like trying to make new fans, last year I gave tickets for a couple games to an old high school classmate and her son; this year I gave Villanova and UNC tickets to my brother to take his stepson. In both cases I think the kids are now hooked on Syracuse basketball...my brother keeps telling me how excited his stepson is to go to the UNC game.

Too many answers and I still gotta walk to the LQ in the bitter cold if I am to safely keep my expectations in the above post.

So the FIRST THOUGHT that came to my mind? Fab Melo's 360 dunk. I'm not sure why that was the first thing to pop into my mind, but I have some guesses: 1)who was the last orange to do that previously?(i hope this isnt another that will require SWC's powers) 2)Some folks on this board werent on board with a)Fab throwing it down in the closing seconds, and b)Fab in general at that point in time.

Right now the one person on the team that brings the most joy to my heart without question is BMK. Man, am I ever going to miss what he brings to this team!! I may add more after my perilous trek.

The first Orangeman I saw do that in a game was Reggie Powell in Manley back in the 1976-77 season. He had freakish leaping ability but little else, and this was certainly the high point of his SU career. His older brother Marvin was a great offensive lineman at USC and with the NY Jets.

Some great answers here! Smothering Indiana is the first thing that came to my mind. And like JJReddawg, I love seeing the former players show support. I sat a few rows behind Derrick Coleman at our last BE tournament, and his energy and passion made mine multiply. Beating Georgetown in that tournament was very satisfying on its own.

I'd also say that one of the most satisfying developments came as a result of one of the least satisfying (as is often the case with these type of things). The Bernie Fine scandal was a cloud that hung over our university, but watching our players persevere in the face of a media sh**storm, was so satisfying to me. Scoop, Triche, Fab, Dion, Joseph, Southerland, etc. These guys blocked it out, banded together, and they put the community on their backs, achieving a number 1 ranking and an Elite 8 run. I don't think I've ever been more proud of my team.

The hunt.

Like in the mid to late 80s, SU is in the hunt now; 4 of the last 5 seasons now, the Orange are legitimate, wire to wire title contenders. 1996 and especially 2003 were great, but they were flukes. In runs like the one we are enjoying, there is an ongoing sense of greater and greater things to come.

In pro wrestling they have a saying: "The money's in the chase." I am loving this chase.

Knowing we'll be good every year with a chance for something great to happen.

I get pissed off when we are bad with no chance for anything good to happen, (G-Rob).

JB's consistency. What is it, 35 20-win seasons (and I've watched them all)? What other program gives fans so much hope year after year. SU is No. 1 for giving its fans good teams to watch year in and year out, and the prospects are trending even better for the future! SU has set the bar high as to how to run a BB program.-VBOF

My sports glory lust will never be satisfied. The problem with winning a championship is the season is over and everyone starts 0-0 again. Sure the glory is forever, but then you need more of it.

I am a Boston pro sports fan too (I was in RI until 13) so for the first 30 years of my life, I had only known almost glory. Infact, I had some downright misery. 1986 Pats and Sox, 1987 SU football and hoops 1996 Cuse, Pats.

Then Tom Brady broke the curse, Cuse followed, then the Sox and Pats again and again, even the Bruins. But none of those pro sports championships tasted near as sweet as Melos run. (04 Sox came very close I lived to see the curse broken)

I hope to see another NCAA championship in 125 days.

I pray I live to see another SU Football National Champion.

Cusefan95 has a great point about that. I also renewed seasons after 2005. The sweetest glory is that which is unexpected. See 2006 BET.
