As far as the next Head basketball coach

CHAT GPT says this when asking about "who will be the next men's basketball head coach at Syracuse University".

"As of mid-March 2026, Syracuse University is finalizing an agreement to hire Bryan Hodgson, currently the head coach at the University of South Florida, as its next men’s basketball head coach. Multiple reports indicate that the deal is nearing completion and could be announced soon .

Hodgson, an upstate New York native, has been one of the hottest mid-major coaches in the country — leading South Florida to a 23–8 record and an AAC regular-season title. Before that, he was a top recruiter under Nate Oats at both Buffalo and Alabama.

By choosing Hodgson, Syracuse appears to be moving away from program tradition — notably passing over Gerry McNamara, the former Orange star and current Siena head coach, who was also a strong candidate for the position.

So unless negotiations collapse at the last minute, Bryan Hodgson is set to become the next Syracuse men’s basketball head coach."

Now obviously, it all depends on what "Multiple reports indicate that..." means, if it means multiple posts from this board, well then anything is possible.

Why is a southern tier guy being said to be from upstate New York?

Yes, I know where Olean is, having been there numerous times as my wife is also a Bonnie’s alum.

Basically, anything north of the City (or maybe Yonkers) is considered upstate. I grew up in Binghamton, and we were always referred to as upstate.

It is pulling those fake tweets as evidence. We all understand ChatGPT cannot actually think right? It is just gathering information (some of which could be from this board or parody social media accounts) and predicting the next most likely word to fulfill your prompt.

Because it happened with Fran and the new AD hire… candidates out of nowhere.

Don’t think that will apply here tho
Yeah knew those two, was not sure if he had read somewhere about another candidate. The out of left field was kinda a weird unicorn situation amongst rich people. I guess I get it's possible but I would think likely improbable. You don't become AD by promoting some wildcard candidate. My guess is BB had to align with SU stakeholders during the process.

When chairing a NYSDOH meeting where the parties had to come from downstate, sometimes I'd open by welcoming them to the North Pole. Would elicit knowing snickers because you know that is exactly what they were thinking.

General rule of thumb I learned is if you want a definitive line, extend Pennsylvania's northern border across the Hudson Valley. Everything above that is “Upstate”.

Upstate is then divided into regions like central, southern tier, etc.

This is how I think of the regions upstate and some may be slightly overlapping:

The Hudson Valley
The Catskills
The Mohawk Valley
The Capitol District
CNY
Southern Tier
Finger Lakes
North Country
Adirondacks
Western New York
That's the way I've always thought.

That ma be accurate. But to most of the country there’s NYC, and everywhere else is upstate. Like it or not, saying the North Country or MohawkValley to folks in the south or midwest will just draw blank stares.
