Ashton Broyld on final day of Fall camp

Arrghhhh. Bubble screen. Not something I have come to love. So, in principle, I disagree, not when it is run so predictably.

Arrrghhh.

;)

IF Broyld is so adept at making the first person miss and running through tackles the bubble screen could actually be a big weapon. Trips right, 2 WR/TE on the line, Broyld behind them. Vs NW that would have 6'4 230 lb Broyld against a 6' 190 lb DB in the flat and I'll take that matchup.

Damn right. Forget third and short, I want more second and short situations where it gives the offense more options and keeps the defense on their heels.

2nd and short also give Hackett the opportunity to "take a chance down field" as they say.

Honestly, I am not sure the NW d-coordinator is worried about any of our guys in particular -- maybe Lemon if he is healthy. We have a lot of balance, but no one guy who is going to scare a defense.
Should be expecting us to use less of a blocking FB and more sets with two backs, with Broyld (along with Gulley) being an option for that second back. NW sees an innovative offense in practice every day -- not likely we will catch them napping, so it will come down to basic football.
the one to worry about is nassib---he and the oline are keys to w/l

Kinda like how UW changed their offense for Locker. Well-known on the message boards, not so much in the coaches box.

In 2007, we had Husky fans posting all summer long about how good Jake Locker was and saying how they were going to change to a spread offense to accomodate him, etc. So what they were going to do seemed to be common knowledge. Then, he ran wild on us as we laid a 42-12 egg in the game. I recall reading/seeing interviews about how surprised we were with their offense, but couldn't find a money quote to post. Instead, for the non-squeamish, here's the post-game.

Would be nice to be on the other end of that situation with an AB coming out party.

And equally as importantly, what does having Broyld moving around out there in the backfield force defenses to do, even if he doesn't happen to get the touch on any given play?

Broyld in motion presnap will give Nassib a great presnap read. A few decent gains on plays Broyld and the defense has to adjust giving West, Wales, Thompson, etc. the middle of the field to work vs LB or safety as well as open up space for the RB's to work. I like West to have a big year this year as well.

I agree, I don't doubt that Broyld is a great athlete and will do some great things for us but first game I am expecting a couple carries, few short receptions and maybe a wildcat carry or two that total about 50 yards. Solid but nothing earth shattering, the expectataions can get out of whack

The expectations are out of whack...imo.
