At some point, we need to address Scheduling

This isn't 1998, we're not playing Tennessee, Michigan AND NC State OOC anymore.

If Maryland at home is "over scheduling" than maybe that's a sign that we're a dreadful *cking program.

If we didn't totally suck we could've beat Clemson and ND this year. They certainly gave us every opportunity. Neither are world beaters.

Maybe we should drop out of the ACC and join the American? I'm sure UConn would be happy to take our place.

This isn't 1998 where we have McNabb as our QB. maybe you should look at the history of this program, it often sucks mixed in with some decent years. We need all the help we can get. Funny that Duke and NC State aren't dropping out of the ACC with their awful OOC schedules. They are going to bowls while Syracuse and tough talking fans like you are watching Cinemax instead of watching SU in a bowl game

As a long-time season ticketholder, I am not interested in scheduling four low level non-conference opponents every year.

Maybe we should ask ourselves whether Syracuse will ever be able to be competitive in a southern football conference and start discussing how relocating to a more northern based conference could increase our win totals.

Oh I used to be disgusted
And now I try to be amused

I heard somewhere, this might not be right, that Syracuse was the only football team in the country, D1 or NFL, that played nine weeks in a row without a bye. At the least, Nunes says we are the only ACC school that did it.

It is insanity to impose this on a team once. If they do two years in a row, I will be extremely disappointed.

That can't be right, NFL teams start having byes in week 4 and then proceed to play weeks 5-17 (12 consecutive weeks with games).

If we schedule OOC games early in the season it will force our bye weeks later maybe that's just as important right now.

You are right on the NFL front. Not sure where I heard this. I think it was on a radio show. Can't find any mention of it on the Internet.

It was probably true at the time it was written/said, but not true for an entire NFL season.

Dude, Cinemax? Please.

Seriously, we played Nova, CMU, MD and ND. We went 2-2. You wanna drop MD for another CMU, fine. Now we're 4-7 instead of 3-8.

Whoopee.

If people want to question how the schedule laid out that's cool. But we're talking about one game.

Next year we are playing CMU, URI, USF and LSU. That has 3-1 all over it if we don't totally suck. We need to go 3-5 in conference to make a bowl.

I don't see the problem. CMU, URI and USF for Pete's sake.

If we lose at USF next year, and someone says we're overscheduling by playing @ USF, then we should thank the ACC for the opportunity, and ask the MAC if they would accept a football only.

Assuming 3-1, we have to win 3 out of 8 conference games.

2015
Home: Boston College, Clemson, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh
Road: Florida state, Louisville, NC State, Virginia

While I am not among them, many think we can't beat FSU and Clemson. If so, that leaves 3 of 6.

Every season surprises us, but given our challenges at QB, it may be a close thing.

Sure, but if we can't win 3 of 8 ACC games it's not because of "over scheduling".

It's because we suck.

No one worries about "over scheduling" when they see SU on their calendar.

I guarantee-flippin-tee that thread will exist.

"Rhode Island, Central Michigan *and* South Florida?!?! It's like some kind of Bataan Death March!!!!"

Yes, true enough. I could have done without LSU next season - 2016 would have been better.

When we lose to name schools in September and people get "overscheduling" in their head, very few people actually pay attention to what those name schools do after they play us.

Maryland is 4-3 after playing us. ND is 3-4 after playing us

Penn St was 6-5 after playing us last year. Northwestern was 3-7 after playing us

Big name OOC teams the last 3 years are 16-19 following games against SU

USC after the 2012 SU game was 5-6. Northwestern was good that year 9-3 after SU. Minnesota STUNK after the SU game 2-7. 16-16 in 2012.

32-35 total

And when Rhode Island gives us a tough time, there will be a new thread every subsequent week saying "See! I told you Rhode Island was a tough team! They just beat Towson by a whole two touchdowns!"

Love the hyperbole. Playing teams like USC, PSU, ND and the like also takes a toll physically on the players. There is a reason why these teams have 4 to 5 star kids on their teams...speed and size and after going through that SU then has Clemson, Louisville and FSU. If anyone has ever played the game you would know that there is a reason why a lot of schools play the patsies and there are multiple reasons why they do so. Look who Georgia, Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi and Mississippi St played last week before their rivalry games. FSU played BC. It the physical part along with playing a better team.

but now we've totally pissed off all the cnyers who only consider not showing for the ped sts and lsu's of the world, this would make for a no show without a 2nd thought.

remember, they DEMAND that all the big boys come to them, so after they rake their leaves they can sit on their couch and watch the game at the Dome with pride.

One game.

Look, I was an SU fan in the 90s. I knew overscheduling. I was friends with overscheduling.

2014? 2015? You, sirs, are not over scheduling.

I don't know anything about their roster, but they are 7-4 right now. Could easily end up 7-6. And we get them at home.

I mean, some people talk so much out of both sides of their mouth, it's comical.

A few months ago some people were claiming that we were about to leap back into the top 25 on the heels of our 3 bowls in 4 seasons run. Now 11 games later some of the same people are adamant that our program is such an abject disaster that we have to schedule a couple of Ivies (but not Harvard, Yale or Dartmouth, they are too tough), a bad MAC team and the Fayetteville middle school intramural flag football team. Anything else is just too much for our delicate program.

And FWIW, next year LSU has to play at Mississippi State and home vs. Auburn in the two weeks before they come to the Dome. They also play 8 straight to open the season before their first bye.

Meanwhile we have CMU the week before them.

So, you know, it's impossible to even think of giving them a game.

Since 2009 here is our record against peer P5 teams in OOC games. I am not including Penn State 0-2, USC 0-2, Notre Dame 0-1.

2009
Minnesota-L
Northwestern-W

2010
@Washington-L
Boston College-L

2011
Wake Forest-W

2012
Northwestern-L
@Minnesota-L
@Missouri-W

2013
@Northwestern-L

2014
Maryland-L

Our record against peer P5 teams since Doug Marrone has taken over is 3-7. If you want to add Kansas State, West Virginia, Minnesota in bowl games it becomes a respectable 6-7.

We don't really over-schedule we just lose the peer P5 game 7 of 10 times during the regular season.

How can our players be expected to survive the rigors of playing Northwestern?!

And we've gotten lucky catching factories in down years and we still lose those games too. ND USC Penn State

Man, no kidding.

And for another reason this year kills me... ND (5) and Clemson (4) turned the ball over NINE times when we played them. That's a dream scenario for Shafer. And yet we lose both because our offense was utterly horrific.

There's a world where a decent SU team wins those games.
