At some point, we need to address Scheduling

Oh, shut up with that.

Honestly.

Grow up a little. If you can't realize the difference in the P5 schools and other when it comes to the physical aspect of the game that tells me that you don't know what you're talking about when you just brush it off. SU does not have the depth at this time to handle that and yes...maybe in the 90's they did to a point but once you have to replace people with true freshmen it changes the whole landscape of what they can or can not do.

ONE. GAME.

ONE. GAME.

Once ll you can say is the same foolish statement I have to realize that I'm wasting my time talking to someone that is just angry and won't communicate rationally. Have a nice Thanksgiving Scooch.

Man, no kidding.

And for another reason this year kills me... ND (5) and Clemson (4) turned the ball over NINE times when we played them. That's a dream scenario for Shafer. And yet we lose both because our offense was utterly horrific.

There's a world where a decent SU team wins those games.
http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb...=&c4stat=&c4comp=gt&c4val=&order_by=date_game

Teams that turn the ball over 4 or more times win 20% of the time.

odds of a team losing twice where opp has 4+ TO = 4%

When we've turned over 4 times or more since 2000, we're 2 and 16.

This is such a ridiculous argument. 60 (SIXTY!) other teams in FBS have played harder schedules than Syracuse. We played a crap FCS school, a crap FBS school, a mediocre P5 team and a mediocre to good P5 team in the non-conference. If we need to schedule worse than that because our poor players can't handle the physicality, then I think it's probably time to shut the program down.

Not angry in the least. Please show me how our OOC opponents over the past several years were the cause of significant, program-wide injuries? We're never a deep team, even when we were good. Please show me how SU is uniquely affected by our OOC schedule in a way similar, peer schools are not?

If you're so sure of your hypothesis I'm sure you can offer more proof than just "well you never played D-1 football".

felt like checking the big wins we've had

PSU 87 went 3-2 after us.

Florida in 91 won 7 in a row before losing the sugar bowl

Wisconsin 97 went 8-4 the rest of the way

Michigan went 10-1 the rest of the way

we all know about Tennessee even though that was a loss

when we beat a name school, they're usually actually great. lots of the time when we lose, the name school isn't that good. it's weird. maybe we should really start overscheduling - lets hope LSU is great!

September 12th 2015 is still an open slot in the schedule, as far as I can tell. That's the second week of the season.
I really hope SU doesn't repeat what happened this year with the second-week bye.

Here's the tentative schedule so far for 2015:
http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa-15/acc/2015-syracuse-orange-football-schedule.php
We could play an ACC game week 2. Ideally we could play @ Florida State week 2 as they will be with a new QB next year and Syracuse is never going to win in Tallahassee, but if we are going against a new QB starting his second game would be our only chance.

I have no doubt we will be playing away week 2 @nc state or FSU potentially on Thursday or Friday night so fsu can have a few extra days to prepare for there trip to Clemson in week 3

I was assuming that it would be an OOC game in Week 2. I forgot that this year's Louisville-Miami game was in week 1 and the BC-Pitt game was in week 2.
[The other ten teams in the ACC this year had their first ACC games in week 3, 4, or 5.]

I'd love to know how college football scheduling works because it sounds like it's complicated as hell.

And FWIW, next year LSU has to play at Mississippi State and home vs. Auburn in the two weeks before they come to the Dome. They also play 8 straight to open the season before their first bye.

Meanwhile we have CMU the week before them.

So, you know, it's impossible to even think of giving them a game.

One could argue that LSU gets a bye the week after the Auburn game.

Did you have a list at one point of the ACC schools who currently have an open date that 2nd week?

I just have this bad feeling the ACC is going to leave us out again. And if they do, we thought 9 games was a marathon. Next year would be 11 straight.

Cupcake City is the way to go! You want to fill the Dome...win! Fans say they want to see good opponents, that's a lie. Fans want to follow a winner. If you schedule to go 4-0 or 3-1 to start every year you will then have an excited fan base come October. Fans will fill the Dome. Do that enough years in a row and guess what, you have an excited fan base who follows a team that goes to a BOWL game every year and they fill the Dome for football all the time...why are they going to a bowl game every year...because of smart scheduling! You don't get brownie points for playing a tough team and losing. So schedule wins!

Well, it's not completely bleak.
Of the ACC teams that SU is playing next year, these are the ones that currently have an open week 2:

FSU (would an away game)
Boston College (would be a home game)
NC State (would be an away game)
Wake Forest (would be a home game)

Aside from ND (which in hindsight, wasn't that tough), who were the tough teams in our non-conference schedule?

Ok, now I recall Chris bringing each of them up as possibilities (except for BC which will undoubtedly stay as the final game).

I'd take @FSU if we can get it. Going to have suffer that game at some point so might as well have it early when they may be breaking in some new players.

We need a top flight QB.

Until we have one, it doesn't matter what our schedule looks like.

It's not that they are "tough"...its just that we can schedule easier. Why schedule "equal" or close to "equal" teams and why not schedule easier teams. Why play Maryland, Northwestern, or Minnesota when you can always schedule Colgate, Akron, Kent St, Miami of Ohio...etc.

In the current state of college football a program like Syracuse (not competing for a national title anytime soon) there is nothing to gain by scheduling equal level opponents like Maryland and Northewestern and such. It's just silly at this point. Schedule wins. Get to 6 wins a bowl. Guarantee those extra weeks of practices every year and be smart about it

as of the last time I checked these teams have no game scheduled for week 2:
FSU
Miami
BC
NC State
Wake Forest
US

BC and Miami are still lacking a game(mia) or 2(bc) or have games scheduled but no date finalized(mia, NC St).

No Miami in 2015

Syracuse @ NC State or Wake Forest @ Syracuse on a Friday night ESPN telecast are our best bets. I doubt SU@FSU week 2 will happen there are a lot of good non conference games that weekend and I doubt ESPN would want an ACC conference game for FSU on that slot for national TV.
